NFL to release 2016 schedule at 8 p.m. today

FLOWERY BRANCH -- The 2016 NFL schedule will be released on NFL Network, NFL.com, NFL Now and NFL Mobile from Verizon at 8 p.m. Thursday.

The special will break down the entire 2016 NFL regular season schedule, division by division, analyzing the top matchups and primetime games, including the 18-game Thursday Night Football schedule on CBS, NBC and NFL Network.

The Falcons’ schedule for the 2016 season, which is slated to be their last in the Georgia Dome, is set.

The Falcons, who are scheduled to open play in the Mercedes Benz Stadium in 2017, finished in second place in the NFC South with an 8-8 record.

The Falcons will travel to Carolina, New Orleans, Tampa Bay, Seattle, Los Angeles, Oakland, Denver and Philadelphia.

The Falcons will host Carolina, New Orleans, Tampa Bay, Arizona, San Francisco, Kansas City, San Diego and Green Bay.

With the Rams move from St. Louis to Los Angeles, the Falcons have additional travel and may have requested that they have consecutive West Coast road games.

"It would make sense that might be something that we would consider; go out there, play a game and stay out there a week and play another game,’’ Falcons president Rich McKay said.

The Falcons have a lot of travel with games at Los Angeles, Oakland, Denver and Seattle.
