We’ll focus on team-needs, possible selections, players the Falcons have worked out and/or interviewed, etc. The Falcons own 10 picks in this draft. Today we’ll look at Ohio State running back Carlos Hyde, who’s met with the Falcons.

Combine Numbers: He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.66 seconds, had a vertical of 34.5, had the broad jump of 9 feet, 6 inches and lifted 225 pounds 19 times.

Projected Round: He's the first rated running back in the draft and is projected to be selected in the second round by NFLDraftScout.com.

Career Highlights: Hyde rushed for 1,527 yards last season. He's sort of a throwback and not a natural fit for today's spread offenses. "I love him as a player," ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper said. "He'll block. He'll catch. He'll run hard. He's physical."

Quotes: "I think my game is what separates me. What I bring to the table. I bring that passion. I play with a lot of heart. I feel like I bring that spark to the offense. When the offense needs something going, I feel like I can make it happen."

Falcons level on interest: Moderate. He has to remind the coaching staff of former Falcons running back Michael "The Burner" Turner. He runs with the same type of determination and vigor. The Falcons would likely have to pick up an extra second-round pick in order to have a shot at Hyde.

Here are the Falcons draft picks:

  • Round 2 – No. 37 overall
  • Round 3 – No. 68 overall
  • Round 4 – No. 103 overall
  • Round 4 – No. 139 overall (compensatory)
  • Round 5 – No. 147 overall

  • Round 7 – No. 220 overall
  • Round 7 – No. 253 overall (compensatory)
