Michael Rooks, the High Museum of Art's energetic and enterprising curator of modern and contemporary art, has been selected as the recipient of the sixth annual Nexus Award.
Presented by the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center, the Nexus Award is a public acknowledgment of individuals, groups or organizations that have made significant contributions to the contemporary arts landscape.
Rooks, who joined the High in 2010, has notably raised the profile of contemporary art and working metro Atlanta artists in the museum's collection and exhibition program.
He will receive the award at a ceremony and reception at the Contemporary on May 19.
“It is humbling and incredibly meaningful to join the esteemed group of Nexus Award honorees,” he said in a High Museum statement. “Connecting the High Museum of Art with artists and the people who nurture them in Atlanta has been a priority to me since my first conversation about my position at the High. That responsibility has since become a joy for me personally, an inspiration, and a critically important aspect of what I do.”
