High extends Cardiff's 'Forty Part Motet' sound installation

The High Museum of Art is extending the run an extra month of Janet Cardiff's acclaimed sound installation, "The Forty Part Motet," now through Feb. 15.

Deconstructing a 16th century choral work by Thomas Tallis, the installation features 59 voices that were recorded separately but are played in unison through 40 loudspeakers on tripods. As visitors move among the speakers, they hear distinct voices and also varied harmonies.

Atlanta Journal-Constitution contributing critic Felicia Feaster called it a "thoughtful, joyous work" that reveals "the sculptural potential of sound."
