23-day Jewish Film Fest opens with 'Above and Beyond' tonight at Cobb Energy

“Above and Beyond: The Birth of the Israeli Air Force,” a documentary about U.S. and other Allied pilots who returned to the skies in support of Israel’s War of Independence in 1948, opens the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival tonight at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.

Producer Nancy Spielberg will be featured in a post-screening Q&A. Those in attendance also can check out a touring exhibit about the American and Canadian military volunteers who aided Israel, organized by the American Veterans of Israel Legacy Corporation and the American Jewish Historical Society.

Featuring 164 screenings of 65 films over 23 days, the AJFF will run through Feb. 19 at theaters in Midtown and across the northern metro area. General admission tickets for opening night: $18 (or $150-$300 including food and drink gala). Regular showings: $13, with discounts for seniors, students, children and matinees. www.ajff.org.
