Citing slow fund-raising, rising costs, Capitol City Opera postpones 'Mikado'

Capitol City Opera Company, which had planned a fall mainstage production of “The Mikado,” announced this week that it is delaying the Gilbert and Sullivan opera until next year due to slow fund-raising and rising production costs.

"Capitol City has been affected in recent years by changing economic conditions," said Cory Colton, board president of the troupe that since 1983 has provided classically trained singers opportunities to hone their skills on a professional level. "This has resulted in a flattened level of contributions.”

"The Mikado" is now planned for May 20-22, 2016, and the company meanwhile will continue to focus on educational outreach, Dinner and a Diva programs, Madrigal Singers and On the Light Side productions.
