Charis Books and More celebrates 40 years

Many an independent book store has fallen by the wayside over the years, as digital media and online book sales have gobbled up the market. Charis Books and More has seen its share of lean times, but the feminist bookstore continues to serve an important niche. It is happily celebrating its 40th year this month with not one but two parties on Nov. 8.

Festivities begin with an in-store party and sale from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. A fund-raising birthday bash takes place that night, 7-10:30 p.m., at the Marianna event space above the Wrecking Bar (292 Moreland Ave., Atlanta). Tickets range from $40 a person to $1,040 for four, including VIP entrance one hour early.
