Senate study committee looking at airport takeover to meet Sept. 12

A state Senate study committee looking at the idea of a state takeover of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport will hold its second meeting next month.

The panel will also "explore the feasibility of adding a secondary airport hub in Georgia over a 20-year period."

The committee, chaired by state Sen. Burt Jones, will meet Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 10 a.m. in room 450 of the State Capitol.

The committee says it is studying the idea of establishing an authority to run the Atlanta airport "in the interest of public welfare, national security and economic stability."

It will review federal laws and regulations for such a change and report its findings by Dec. 1.
