News and notes from Hartsfield-Jackson, the world's busiest airport

Lyft expanding in Atlanta

As Uber and Lyft operations at Hartsfield-Jackson International come up for debate with the airport's move to legalize and regulate pickups at the curbside, No. 2 player Lyft says it is in growth mode in Atlanta.

Lyft says it has seen a 60 percent increase in rides since the beginning of 2016, after a more than four-fold increase in passengers in 2015.

Sam Bond, Lyft's general manager, also said the company is "growing the driver base very, very rapidly" in Atlanta.

Among the expansion efforts: Lyft has a new marketing partnership with Georgia State University athletics as a ride-share partner, which the company said will mean promotions for Georgia State students. Some Georgia State athletics events will also have designated Lyft pickup areas.

Lyft's top destinations in Atlanta, based on passenger ride data:

Top bar: Dark Horse Tavern

Top Restaurant: Big Sky Buckhead

Top Event Venue: Philips Arena

Top MARTA stop: College Park station
