Temperatures in metro Atlanta are expected to stay summer-like all week, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Currently, the temperature is 84 degrees in Atlanta, down from a high of 88, Channel 2 reported. The average high for this time of year is 79.

“If you like summertime, if you want extended summer, you’ve got it at least through the end of the week,” Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

That’s because of a strong ridge of high pressure in the area.

“The air’s sinking down toward the surface,” Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said. “And that is keeping us on the warmer side.”

Highs are expected to hit 90 Wednesday, 89 Thursday, 85 Friday and 80 Saturday.

“So until that ridge breaks down, we are going to stay hot,” Minton said.

That’s not expected to happen until the weekend, when high temps are forecast to drop to the 70s.
