Atlanta is dry now, but don’t expect it to last.

Showers later in the week could bring tornadoes to metro Atlanta and snow in the North Georgia mountains, according to Channel 2 Action News.

There is a 90 percent chance of strong storms Friday following a warm front entering the region, according to Channel 2. And the cold is expected to return over the weekend. Moisture from Friday’s storms could bring snow flurries to the mountains.

“We'll watch for 40-plus-mph wind gusts and can't rule out a brief spin-up tornado” on Friday, Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

But don’t worry about that yet.

There’s still time for you to enjoy warm temperatures.

Currently, it’s 62 degrees in Atlanta, which is 7 degrees above the average high for this time of year, Channel 2 reported. Atlanta reached a high of 64. Temps should dip into the 50s later in the evening.

Thursday could get a high of 63 degrees, but there is a 30 percent chance of showers by 4 p.m.

While the forecast calls for highs in the 60s through Friday, Atlanta could wake up to temps in the 30s on Saturday and 20s on Sunday, according to the news station.

“So those of you who love the cold weather,” Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said, “it’s on its way back.”
