Metro Atlanta’s trend of highs in the 90s with spotty afternoon and evening showers continued Thursday.

Just after noon, rain was reported in far northwest Georgia, according to Channel 2 Action News. Showers started in metro Atlanta in the late afternoon and are expected to continue off and on through the evening.

Heavy rain and gusty winds hit north Cobb and north Fulton counties about 4 p.m. By 5 p.m., the rain had moved into downtown Atlanta and DeKalb County. As of 6:30 p.m., most of the rain had moved into Clayton County and southeast of Atlanta.

Showers are expected to diminish by sunset.

While some of the storms might be strong Thursday, the risk of severe storms has decreased somewhat for Friday. Showers are expected to arrive by late morning and isolated storms could hit the metro area by about 3 p.m., Channel 2 Chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said, but they are not expected to be severe.

The high on Friday is 89 degrees with a 40 percent chance of rain.

After all the rain Thursday, the temperature has dipped to 75 degrees in Atlanta, Channel 2 reported.
