John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park

Swimmers, snorkelers, scuba divers, kayakers, paddleboarders and fishermen have a haven at the country’s first undersea park. It spans 70 nautical square miles. Snorkel the crystal-blue waters of Cannon Beach, and you’ll come across an early Spanish shipwreck. Keep an eye out for Christ of the Abyss, a 4,000-pound bronze sculpture of Jesus Christ that stands more than 8 feet tall, located 25 feet underwater. You can rent snorkel equipment onsite, pay for a guided snorkel tour or stay dry by ponying up for a trip on a glass bottom boat. Stick around and take advantage of camping and picnic spots on site.
