What’s with all the shamrocks at East Lake Golf Club for the 2017 Tour Championship?
More than any other golfing icon, perhaps, Bobby Jones had it all: A sublime swing. Superb sportsmanship on and off the course. And a lucky shamrock in his pocket. “It was on his pocket watch chain,” said Martin Stephenson, tournament director of the  2017 TOUR Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. “He had...

Shove over, Halloween. Hallmark’s 67-dayChristmas movie marathon starts on Oct. 27
Ho, ho, ho, Halloween, the joke’s really on you this year. Cable TV powerhouse Hallmark says that the 2017 version of its insanely popular -- and  nonstop, as in airing 24/7 -- holiday movie season will kick off on Oct. 27. That’s four days before trick-or-treating happens. And one day earlier than 2016’s mistletoe-y...

Not going to Music Midtown 2017? Here’s how you can still use Piedmont Park
You and Bruno Mars have something in common this weekend: You can both do your thing in Piedmont Park. If some folks
without Music Midtown tickets mistakenly think the whole park is off limits to them this Saturday and Sunday, that’s somewhat understandable.
            After all,
             the two-day festival...

Jimmy Carter: I might not have become president if Twitter had been around
Jimmy Carter said Wednesday night that he might not have become president if Twitter had been around back when he was a candidate in the mid-1970s -- but it wouldn’t have been for any lack of trying on his part. “If it had existed, I would certainly have tried to use it.” Carter, 92, grinned as a crowd of students packed...

Irma moves in, MARTA shuts down and Atlanta is forced to adjust
George Agyemang figured to be a busy guy on Monday. It was a little past 10 a.m. when he dropped off a passenger at the Woodruff Arts Center in time for his audition with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. The Arts Center MARTA station was just steps away across the street, but it wasn’t an option for riders. Beginning at 2 a.m. Monday...

AAA’s advice: Get ready for Irma, Georgia (here’s how to prepare yourself and your car)
Hurricane Irma is headed toward Georgia, promising to bring torrential rain, damaging wind and little to no visibility on roads. The perfect storm of reasons not to drive, in other words. But what if you can’t avoid it? Much of coastal Georgia and other parts of the state are under mandatory evacuation orders beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday...
