As the Falcons settle into the shiny new Mercedes-Benz Stadium, fans with fond memories of the soon-to-be-imploded building next door can buy Georgia Dome memorabilia over the next two weeks.
Schneider Industries, an asset liquidation company hired to sell off the contents of the Falcons' former home, said Friday it will conduct an online auction of Dome souvenirs until Sept. 30.
Items available for bids by fans at www.gadomesale.com include player lockers, pieces of artificial turf, end-zone pylons, goal-post pads, sideline yard markers, banners, framed photographs, posters, NFL headsets and more. Even the restroom signs are available.
All items came directly from the Georgia Dome field, locker rooms or concourses, according to Schneider.
In addition to the auction, several items are offered for immediate purchase at set prices: pieces of goal posts ($40), turf ($25) and goal-line turf ($40).
The Georgia Dome, which opened in 1992 and hosted its final event March 5, is scheduled for implosion Nov. 20. The interior of the building already has been largely demolished. The stadium seats were sold earlier this year. Video boards, suite furniture and the like were sold by sealed bids.
The Dome was the site of 1,456 events attended by 37.6 million people over the past quarter-century. In addition to Falcons games, the Dome hosted two Super Bowls, three Final Fours, 152 college football games and Olympic basketball and gymnastics, among other events.
