Worrilow set to sign with the Lions

Former Falcons linebacker Paul Worrilow, who’s set to become an unrestricted free agent on Thursday, has agreed to terms with the Detroit Lions on a one-year contract, according to his Atlanta-based agent Hadley Engelhard.

Worrilow, 26, lost his middle linebacker job to rookie Deion Jones last season as the Falcons tried to get faster on defense. He helped Jones transition into the position and played on special teams.

“I know I can go and play good ball,” Worrilow said. “Whether if that’s here or somewhere else.”

The Patriots, Lions, Eagles and Colts were reportedly interested in Worrilow. Teams can start signing free agents at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

Worrilow was signed as an undrafted free agent from Delaware in 2013 and went on to earn the starting middle linebacker spot. He led the team in tackles with 127 while playing in all 16 games and starting 12. He also led the team in tackles in 2014 with 143 and he had 95 tackles in 2015.

Worrilow didn’t immediately return a call to his cell phone.
