Which notable NFL players were released as teams trim rosters?

It was bad news for a pair of NFL players who each have a legion of loyal fans.

Quarterback Tim Tebow was released by the Philadelphia Eagles and defensive tackle Devon Still was released by the Cincinnati Bengals.

The moves were made on cut-down day, where NFL teams must trim their rosters to 53 players.

While the cuts were not surprising, many Tebow fans from his legendary college football days at the University of Florida were pulling for him as he tried one more time to secure a spot on an NFL team. It is not clear if Tebow will continue to pursue an NFL career or if he will resume his college football TV analyst role.

Devon Still and his daughter, Leah, became household names after Leah was diagnosed with cancer. Still has documented the inspirational journey on social media. While the Bengals were able to maintain Still on the practice squad last year after being cut, he is no longer eligible. Still will become a free agent once he clears waivers. He and his daughter will both receive NFL health insurance for the next five years, per league policy.
