Former Georgia standout Leonard Floyd, who was selected ninth overall in the 2016 draft, is set to face the Falcons at 1 p.m. Sunday at Soldier Field.
Floyd had seven sacks in 12 games last season. He had to work on his tackling to avoid concussions.
The Eastman, Ga. native didn’t grow up as a fan of the Falcons. When the Chicago media asked him if he was a fan of the Falcons, he said, “No. Hell, no.”
He's also not a big fan meeting his league and contractually mandated media responsibilities. (We may have to turn him into the league office!)
Here’s what Floyd had to say to the Bears media on Friday:
Q: How did you get better at study habits?
A: "Just listening to my veteran teammates. They always told me to study a lot, study always, so I make sure I get in my playbook."
Q: How many Georgia people you know coming up for the Notre Dame-Georgia game?
A: "Shoot. Every traveling fan Georgia has is going to be in the building. I wish I could go but I've got to get ready for Atlanta."
Q: You’re pretty busy
A: "Yeah, I'm really just focused on Atlanta, going out and performing at a high level. So I'm focusing, watching film and all that stuff so I can come out and execute my game plan."
Q: Better at watching film, how?
A: "I just know what to look at. I just been taught what to look at while I'm watching film like down and distance, personnel, what formation they're in. Just things of that nature."
Q: Falcons fan as a kid?
A: "No. Hell no."
Q: Fan of anyone?
A: "I was a Georgia Bulldog fan."
Q: Not doing the dirty bird?
A: "Nah."
Q: Your teammates say you’re good. Do you know you’re good (not at media, but football)?
A: “I just go out and play as hard as I can every day. Plain and simple. That’s all I do.”
Q: Learn from Pernell (McPhee) and Willie and Lamarr?
A: "They've been teaching me how to be a pro.
Taking it one day at a time. Coming in the building with the right mindset to work on getting better, working on my craft, watching film and helping the next man around me.”
Q: Advice from them?
A: "Your time is short. You're only in the league for a certain amount of time. Just go out every day and give it all you've got."
Q: What kind of impact can Pernell McPhee have?
A: "It's a great impact. Me and Pernell were working out with each other this past offseason a little bit. I'm just happy to see him back out there doing what he loves and we're going to push each other to go hard."
Q: Fishbain goes for the question about counter-moves. It’s a good one! So Leonard, are you going to tell us anything about your technique?
A: "I just rush, man. I rush and whatever set the tackle's giving me, I just let my body do it's natural thing. There's not really a counter I'm thinking about. I just try to get to the quarterback as best I can. "
Q: You at least have to be happy you’ve been at every practice, right?
A: "It just means a lot because I can get out there and practice and work on my craft and work on getting better for the season."
Q: Can you emulate Vic Beasley’s jump in his second year? Are you going to pretend like you don’t care who that is?
A: "I just go out and play as hard as I can. I focus on me and what I'm supposed to do on each play, and I just go out and do it 100 miles an hour. That's all I focus on."
Q: Pat, sensing how off the rails this is, asks: How much fun do you love talking to us? Do you consider us sub-human? Will you ever make eye contact with us again?
A: "Media? Media, media would be the lowest on the totem pole for me. I do it cause I got to."
Q:HAHAHAHAHAH you can’t be serious that we’re worse than running gassers, right? RIGHT?
A: “Gassers are better. I’d rather run.”
