Titans TE Delanie Walker: ‘I’m very disrespected in the league’

Delanie Walker has quietly been one of the most productive tight ends in the NFL since joining the Tennessee Titans in 2013. And the two-time Pro Bowl selection is now officially fed up with the lack of respect and recognition he gets around the league.

“I’m very disrespected in the league,” Walker told Cameron Wolfe of ESPN following the Titans 24-13 win over the Houston Texans on Sunday. “Commentators, announcers don’t talk about me. I get double and triple coverage. I’m still making plays. Nobody talks about that. That drives me. Don’t talk about me. That makes me hungry. They talk about Gronk [Rob Gronkowski], [Travis] Kelce, but not me. I do it every week. They don’t talk about Delanie Walker. I’m always open. Can’t no one cover me.”

Walker began his career with the San Francisco 49ers as a sixth-round pick in the 2006 NFL Draft. He played mostly as a reserve for the 49ers, catching 123 passes for 1,465 and 8 touchdowns.

Since signing with the Titans, Walker has blossomed into a bona fide star, hauling in 340 receptions for 4,025 yards and 25 touchdowns.

“Obviously, I don’t get talked about enough around the league. Probably because I play for the Titans, but the Titans are going to get talked about this year.

“I’m an angry person on the field,” Walker said. “I always tell Marcus [Mariota], ‘I got your back. Whenever you’re in dire need, throw it to me.’ I get mad when I’m not making plays. I feel like this is my team and I’m going to put them on my back. I take that responsibility – win or lose.”

With the help of Walker, the Titans have an 8-4 overall record in 2017 and are tied for first place with the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC South.
