Falcons running back Devonta Freeman remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol, but returned to practice in a limited manner on Thursday.

Falcons coach Dan Quinn would not reveal what stage of the five-step process that Freeman was in on Wednesday.

With him returning to practice on a limited basis, he’s near the end of the process in Step 4, which calls for the player to continue cardiovascular, strength and balance training and he can participate in non-contact football activities like throwing, catching, running, and other position specific activities.

The next and final step is full football activity clearance.

Freeman entered the program after he was injured early in the game against the Cowboys on Nov. 2.

Freeman was also in the protocol from Aug. 13-27 after he was injured in the exhibition season.

In other injury news as the Falcons prepare to host the Buccaneers on Sunday, punter Matt Bosher (left ankle) and backup tackle Ty Sambrailo (hamstring) did not practice on Thursday.

The Falcons worked out punter Matt Wile, who played at Michigan, on Monday.
