Cowboys CB Chidobe Awuzie questionable after full week of practice

Dallas Cowboys rookie cornerback Chidobe Awuzie might able to take the field on Sunday for the first time in more than a month.

Awuzie has been dealing with a hamstring injury since the summer, and it has caused him to miss five games this season. He tried to return Week 5 against the Green Bay Packers, but was not able to finish the game.

Leading up to the Cowboys’ Week 10 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons, Awuzie has been a full participant in practice all week, and is questionable to play on Sunday, per the Dallas Morning News’ Jon Machota.

With linebacker Sean Lee healthy, and defensive lineman David Irving returning from suspension, the Cowboys’ defense has been much improved in recent weeks. Prior to their bye week, they lost two consecutive one-possession games, and allowed 35 points in each one.

Since their bye week, they have not allowed 20 points and that includes a Week 9 against an explosive Kansas City Chiefs offense.

Awuzie was drafted to help replace the talent the Cowboys lost in the defensive backfield in free agency, including starting cornerbacks Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne. He did start Week 2, before missing his first two games of the season with the hamstring injury.

If Awuzie can be a full strength, and comfortable on the field by the time the playoffs begin, the Cowboys’ defense could raise some eyebrows in the playoffs.
