The 1,000 mile run across the unforgiving Alaskan terrain - which includes two mountain ranges, untamed wilderness and the Yukon River - isn't supposed to be easy. But the 42nd running of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race has claimed more than a tenth of the field in just its third day.
