Georgia Tech wide receiver Christian Philpott became the fourth team member to announce his transfer plans since the end of the regular season, making his intentions known Thursday in a message from his Twitter account.
Philpott, a redshirt freshman, has struggled with injuries and did not see much playing time this season. Philpott, from Tallahassee, Fla., appeared in three games and had one catch.
“I have put a lot of thought into it with family and friends and have decided to transfer in January,” Philpott’s message read. He also thanked Georgia Tech coaches, teammates and fans for their support.
Philpott follows B-back Marcus Marshall, cornerback Dorian Walker and linebacker Emanuel Bridges out the transfer door.
His arrival in 2015 was much anticipated, as he had been the state player of the year in his classification in Florida and had also won three state track titles. With a shortage of experience at the position, he was considered a candidate to potentially play as a freshman. However, injuries kept him off the practice field and he redshirted the 2015 season. This season, receivers such as Ricky Jeune, Brad Stewart and Mikell Lands-Davis took most of the snaps, and there are no seniors in the group.
Philpott has three seasons of eligibility remaining. If he were to transfer to another FBS school, he would have to sit out a season and then have two left. He could play immediately at an FCS institution.
