UGA home football opponent for 2020 is revealed

ATHENS — One more opponent on the Georgia football schedule for 2020 can be marked down now, and financial details of that and a previously announced game are also known.

Louisiana-Monroe, a Sun Belt team, will visit Georgia on Sept. 26, 2020, according to a contract provided by UGA on Wednesday. (It was originally signed in August.)

UGA will pay Louisiana-Monroe a guarantee of $1.75 million.

Georgia and Louisiana-Monroe originally scheduled the game for November of that season, but signed an amendment moving it up. The reasons are not clear. Georgia and Louisiana-Monroe have played four times, most recently 2015, with Georgia winning all four games in routs.

That appears to complete Georgia’s non-conference schedule that season, when it will also host Georgia Tech and East Tennessee State, and play against Virginia on Sept. 7 at Atlanta’s Mercedes Benz Stadium.

Meanwhile, Georgia will pay UAB a guarantee of $1.8 million for a game that has been scheduled for Sept. 11, 2021. That information was in the game contract released on Wednesday, while the match-up was announced by UAB over the summer. That is the only known non-conference game for the 2021 season, other than the visit to Georgia Tech.

Georgia and UAB have played twice before, in 2003 and 2006, with the Bulldogs winning both of those games.

The most UGA has ever been known to pay an opponent for a game is $1.9 million, which is going to Kent State to visit Sanford Stadium on Sept. 24, 2022. That so far is the only other known non-conference game for the 2022 season, other than Georgia Tech.

Next season, Georgia is scheduled to play four home non-conference games: Austin Peay (Sept. 1), Middle Tennessee (Sept. 15), UMass (Nov. 17) and Georgia Tech (Nov. 24).

The following season Georgia hosts Murray State (Sept. 7), Arkansas State (Sept. 14) and Notre Dame (Sept. 21), while playing at Georgia Tech (Nov. 30).

UCLA and Georgia are scheduled to play a home-and-home series in 2025 and 2026.
