TCU’s history post non-winning seasons bodes well for Oklahoma game

Sixth-ranked TCU will enter Oklahoma Memorial Stadium on Saturday looking to keep its playoff hopes alive against No. 5 Oklahoma. Both teams sit at 8-1 and tied atop the Big 12 standings entering the top-10 showdown in Norman.

The Horned Frogs have not won at Oklahoma since 2005. But if history is any indicator, a win could be in store for TCU.

TCU has never lost multiple games in a season, bowl games included, following a non-winning regular season under head coach Gary Patterson.

The Horned Frogs have had three non-winning regular seasons in Patterson’s 17-year tenure as head coach. TCU went 5-6 in 2004, 4-8 in 2013, and 6-6 in 2016.

The records in the following seasons, including bowls, went as follows: 11-1, 12-1, and currently 8-1. Subsequently, TCU is a combined 31-3 in such seasons, with room for that mark to improve this month.

TCU’s lone loss of the season came at Iowa State on Oct. 28. If the Horned Frogs fall short on Saturday, it would mark the first two-loss season ever for TCU following a non-winning regular season under Patterson.

TCU and Oklahoma will kick off at 7 p.m. CT on Nov. 11. The winner will likely punch its ticket to the Big 12 title game, at the very least, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Dec. 2.

Clemson’s win-or-go-home mentality continues, but now it gets tough

I’ve compared the home stretch of Clemson’s season to a bigger, March Madness-style bracket before, and it remains that way … sort of. It began with the trip to Raleigh at the beginning of November, where the Tigers had to beat North Carolina State to have a shot at winning the ACC Atlantic once again. Thanks...
