Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson was quite generous in his praise of Georgia in advance of the annual rivalry game Saturday at Bobby Dodd Stadium.

“This is one of the better teams that Georgia’s had since I’ve been here, maybe the best,” he said.

Johnson compared it with Georgia’s 2012 team, which was the last to play in the SEC Championship game and finished No. 5 in the country. That team beat the Yellow Jackets 42-10 in Athens, by far the most decisive result in the nine Tech-Georgia games that Johnson has coached.

“That had been their best team that we had played,” Johnson said. “That game, they worked on us pretty good. I don’t know if that team’s as good as this one. I’ll know when we play them. But they’re both very similar. They’re both really good teams.”

Johnson particularly noted quarterback Jake Fromm – “He’s very accurate. He delivers the ball. He plays with cool and composure” – and wide receiver Javon Wims – “he’s made a lot of plays.” He also made mention of the defensive front seven, tight end Isaac Nauta and the stable of running backs.

“They’re a complete team,” he said. “They’re good on special teams, too.”
