Notre Dame basketball national championship odds plummet after Bonzie Colson injury

Notre Dame men’s basketball’s chances of winning the national championship took a huge hit Tuesday night when the team announced All-American forward Bonzie Colson will miss eight weeks because of a left foot fracture.

Likewise, Notre Dame’s championship odds plummet Wednesday too.

With Bonzie Colson's injury, #NotreDame men's BB goes from a 40-1 shot to win the national title to 75-1 (seems like it should be even longer odds) per Bovada.LV.

Colson suffered his injury in practice this week. If he does return in eight weeks, that would be in time for the ACC Tournament, but the Irish will likely have to navigate the entire conference regular season without their best player.

The senior is averaging 21.4 points and 10.4 rebounds this season.

Leadoff: Braves score big in lefty pitching prospect rankings, shut out in top 10 righties

The Braves are absent from MLB Pipeline’s latest ranking of the game’s top 10 right-handed pitching prospects, which may come as a surprise to fans of, say, Kyle Wright and Mike Soroka. But the Braves are extremely well represented in the same site’s ranking of the top 10 left-handed pitching prospects, with Luiz Gohara ranked No...

The hulking figure lay on its side in the long grass, partially mummified by a tarp and some bubble wrap. Brian Hanlon recognized it as soon as he saw the face. “There’s Shaq!” he cried. Indeed, there was Shaquille O’Neal, even larger than life, frozen in mid-dunk. Hanlon rapped on the copper-toned torso. It was hollow as a...

Bones still a caddie, but with a microphone in hand

All it took was one week back on the bag to remind Jim "Bones" Mackay what he always loved about being a caddie. It just wasn't enough for this to be the ultimate mic drop.  Mackay traded in his TV microphone at the Sony Open for the 40-pound bag belonging to Justin Thomas.  It was his first time caddying since he split with Phil...

Keenum, Foles and Bortles are still alive. Just like everyone expected

This season's second-to-last Sunday of NFL competition comes this weekend and Tom Brady will be playing. That's not exactly stunning. Brady has pretty much ended all debate about which quarterback is the greatest in pro football history. He and the New England Patriots will be playing in their seventh straight AFC championship game this weekend. But...

A haunted site that gymnasts shouldn’t have to revisit

The national training center for the U.S. women’s gymnastics team is a hard place to reach. It’s about 60 miles north of Houston, inside Sam Houston National Forest, on a 2,000-acre ranch owned by Bela and Martha Karolyi, the coaching couple who defected from Romania and became the guiding force of USA Gymnastics. On my way down the dirt...
