Georgia Tech defensive tackle Kyle Cerge-Henderson took to Twitter to apologize for a personal-foul penalty committed late in the Yellow Jackets’ 43-20 loss to Duke Saturday.

“Heat of the moment,” Cerge-Henderson wrote. “I apologize to #21 that was uncalled for, selfish, and stupid. My passion for this game runs deep. Sometimes too deep.”

At the end of a kickoff return, after the Blue Devils had scored to go up 43-20 with 8:39 left in the game, Cerge-Henderson took a jab at the back of Alonzo Saxton’s head and then had to be restrained as Duke players responded. It appeared Cerge-Henderson’s ire was misplaced, as another Duke player had pushed him in the back after the play was whistled dead.

Cerge-Henderson was flagged for a personal foul, one of five penalties against the Yellow Jackets on Saturday. Tech has drawn 16 penalties in the past three games after being called for 25 in the first seven.

Cerge-Henderson continued his apology in a second tweet.

“Most importantly I apologize to my wife and daughter. I’m not that kind of person off the field and don’t need to be on,” he wrote.

Cerge-Henderson became a first-time father in February when his wife Julissa gave birth to Ava Maria.

It wasn’t a good night for the junior. After returning home from Durham, the rear window of his car shattered, which he encapsulated in another tweet.
