In the fall, Wiegers competed with sophomore Nathan Stanley for the Hawkeyes’ starting quarterback job. In the end, it was ultimately given to Stanley, who started every game this season for Iowa.
Wiegers had been with Iowa since 2015. However, he saw limited action in his time as a Hawkeye, and did not play at all in 2016. In only 4 career games, Wiegers completed 4 of his 6 passing attempts for 35 total yards, 1 touchdown and no interceptions.
He will join an Eastern Michigan team that went 5-7 in the 2017 season.
