New Mexico recently fired its basketball coach, former Georgia Tech player Craig Neal. Will it look to UGA for his replacement in the form of Bulldogs coach Mark Fox?

It’s not likely, but interesting nonetheless that connections to the state’s highest-profile Division I basketball programs are even mentioned with a job opening nearly 1,400 miles away.

Neal, a former player under Bobby Cremins at Georgia Tech in the 1980s, was fired last week after four seasons as the Lobos coach and according to a recent poll, current UGA coach Fox is one of several candidates mentioned as a possible replacement. (Check out the poll and voting here.)

The favorites to replace Neal, known as ‘Noodles’ during his playing days in Atlanta, are former Indiana coach Tom Crean and Florida Gulf Coast coach Joe Dooley.
