Georgia Tech offensive-line depth increasing

Battered by injuries, Georgia Tech’s offensive line is regaining health. For the Yellow Jackets’ game at Virginia on Saturday, Johnson expects to have more linemen available to play.

“At least it gives you some depth,” he said Wednesday following practice. “Some guys that can roll.”

Offensive tackle Jake Stickler missed the Clemson game after suffering a concussion in the Wake Forest game. Johnson declined to directly answer a question about Stickler’s injury status, however, acknowledging only that he has physically been at practice all week.

Should Stickler be available to play, it would put the Jackets in a position where they could have a three-player rotation at tackle with Jahaziel Lee, Will Bryan and Stickler. Bryan has also been a part of a rotation at right guard with Shamire Devine.

Backup center Scott Morgan has also been out for the past three weeks with an upper-body injury. Backup guard Brad Morgan returned from an upper-body injury for the Clemson game but did not play.

Johnson also said that walk-on offensive tackle Bailey Ivemeyer needs to play more. Ivemeyer has played in limited amounts subbing at tackle.

“He’s done well,” Johnson said.

The team’s injury report will be released Thursday evening.
