Georgia Tech names captains going into offseason

Breaking from standard practice, Georgia Tech voted for captains at the start of the offseason, electing quarterback TaQuon Marshall and linebacker Brant Mitchell. Coach Paul Johnson’s procedure has been to wait until the third or fourth game of the season before having the team vote.

“With 20 seniors on our roster, I felt that it was important to go ahead and select two team captains now to lead us through our offseason program,” Johnson said in a statement.

He added that the team will vote on a third captain in the fall. Marshall was voted a captain for the 2017 season along with defensive end KeShun Freeman and nickel back Lawrence Austin. Marshall is the eighth Tech player to be named a captain more than once.
