Georgia Tech’s Keith Brooking named ACC legend

The leading tackler in Georgia Tech history, Yellow Jackets great Keith Brooking will be honored as an ACC legend at this year’s league championship game.

In four seasons, 1994-97, Brooking accumulated 467 tackles, passing the school record of 437 by Jerrelle Williams. He was named All-ACC as a senior before being drafted in the first round by the Falcons and beginning a 15-year NFL career.

His 20-tackle game against Clemson in 1995 is tied for fifth most in Tech’s modern era. He had 17 solo tackles in the game, which is the Tech record.

Brooking was a five-time NFL Pro Bowler and was a two-time second-team All-Pro.

The class of 14 legends will be honored Dec. 1 in Charlotte, N.C., the night before the ACC championship game, and then prior to the game at Bank of America Stadium the following day.

Jackets: Defense lacked discipline, focus against Duke

Members of the Georgia Tech defense cited a lack of focus as the reason for their subpar play in Saturday’s 43-20 loss to Duke. The Yellow Jackets were scored on seven consecutive drives to open the game against a team that had lost six consecutive games and averaged 12.2 points per game. “We just didn’t show up the best we could...

Qua Searcy has heard about his touchdown ‘every day since’

The play was called “58 toss throwback.” Georgia Tech A-back Qua Searcy never got to the throwback part, and as a result wove himself into the history of the Tech-Georgia rivalry. Scoring the last-second touchdown in dramatic and unlikely fashion that (along with Harrison Butker’s PAT) beat the Bulldogs last year in Athens has granted...

About Georgia Tech’s fight song: ‘Ramblin’ Wreck’

If you’ve ever heard the words of Georgia Tech’s fight song “Ramblin’ Wreck,” you’ll note that they talk about engineering, whiskey and a hatred of the University of Georgia. The Jackets host the Bulldogs for the 112th edition of the “Clean, Old Fashioned Hate” rivalry. The game will be televised...

TaQuon Marshall: Beat Georgia, nobody will care about the losses

Georgia Tech quarterback TaQuon Marshall grew up in Harris County surrounded by Georgia fans. So it was no small joy when the Yellow Jackets beat Georgia in Athens last year. “Last year was great going home, knowing that we beat Georgia, and I got to rub it in on ’em for the whole year,” he said. “So it’s a huge rivalry...

Paul Johnson calls UGA ‘complete team’

Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson was quite generous in his praise of Georgia in advance of the annual rivalry game Saturday at Bobby Dodd Stadium. “This is one of the better teams that Georgia’s had since I’ve been here, maybe the best,” he said. Johnson compared it with Georgia’s 2012 team, which was the last to play in...
