Auburn basketball-Norfolk State: Live updates for Tigers’ season opener

AUBURN, Ala. — Auburn basketball will open the fourth season of the Bruce Pearl era Friday night against Norfolk State without two of its best players and a lot of uneasiness.

The Tigers tip their season off against the visiting Spartans minus the talents of star sophomores Austin Wiley and Danjel Purifoy, who are still being held out with eligibility concerns after a federal investigation that cost assistant coach Chuck Person his job.

Auburn is also coming off an exhibition loss in overtime to Division II school Barry, which featured more of the Tigers’ struggles from last season — young, exciting offensive talent without disciplined defense or rebounding success. The Tigers hit the practice gym hard this week to fix those issues under Pearl, whose job security is reportedly in jeopardy.
