It was going to be hard to keep the band together.
The Hawks won 60 games on the way to a berth in the Eastern Conference finals during the 2014-15 season. The entire starting five of Jeff Teague, Kyle Korver, DeMarre Carroll, Paul Millsap and Al Horford were named the NBA’s Player of the Month for January as the team did not lose a game. All but Carroll were named All-Stars.
They are no more.
All five players have recently signed elsewhere – for total contracts worth a combined $342 million. Only Kent Bazemore and Dennis Schroder remain from that team. Mike Muscala and Thabo Sefolosha are unrestricted free agents this summer and were also a part of the team.
Here’s a look at what happen to the dynamic fivesome.
Carroll: He as the first to leave as an unrestricted free agent following the 2014-15 season. He signed a four year, $60 million contract with the Raptors and has two years remaining on the deal.
Teague: He was traded to the Pacers last summer as the Hawks got a first-round pick (Taurean Prince) in return. After playing last season for Indiana, Teague recently agreed to a three year, $57 million contract with the Timberwolves as an unrestricted free agent.
Horford: He signed a maximum deal with the Celtics for four years, $113 million as an unrestricted free agent last summer after he could not come to terms with the Hawks.
Korver: He was traded to the Cavaliers before the deadline in a deal that returned a 2019 protected first round pick. After being a part of the Cavaliers team that reached the NBA Finals, he recently agreed to remain in Cleveland on a three year, $22 million deal as an unrestricted free agent.
Millsap: He re-signed with the Hawks following the 60-win season on a three year deal that including a player option. He opted out this summer and became an unrestricted free agent. He agreed to a three year, $90 million contract with the Nuggets Sunday.
