The Hawks signed rookie wing Damion Lee have to a second 10-day contract, the team announced Friday.
Lee became a free agent when his first 10-day contract with the Hawks expired. Lee was considering other options before agreeing to re-sign with the Hawks, who play at Golden State late Friday.
Lee’s second 10-day contract will expire April 2, at which point the Hawks will have five games remaining in the season. If the Hawks want to retain him after that they would have to sign him to a regular contract for at least the rest of the season.
The Hawks have six shooting guards and small forwards under contract for next season: Jaylen Morris, Kent Bazemore, Taurean Prince, DeAndre’ Bembry, Tyler Dorsey and Antonius Cleveland. Rookies Morris and Cleveland both recently signed contracts that include partial guarantees for next season.
Lee was playing with Santa Cruz of the G League before the Hawks signed him March 13 to shore up their injury-thinned roster. Lee made his NBA debut the same day and has averaged 10.4 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists and 1.2 steals in 23.8 minutes per game. Lee has shot 44.7 percent from the field (17-for-38) including 6-for-16 on three-pointers (37.5 percent).
