Hawks sign Magette to training camp deal (updated)

The Hawks agreed to a training camp contract with point guard Josh Magette on Sunday. The team made the announcement on Monday.

The move brings the Hawks roster back to 20 players and adds depth at the position depleted by injuries to starter Dennis Schroder and Jarrett Jack.

The 26-year-old Magette (pronounced Mah-jet) went undrafted out of Division II University of Alabama-Huntsville in 2012. He was the Gulf South Conference co-Player of the Year as a senior. The 6-foot-1, 160-pounder has spent the past four seasons playing in Europe in the Netherlands and Greece and for the Los Angeles D-Fenders of the NBA Development League. During the 2013-14 D-League season, Magette averaged 10.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, 6.9 assists and 1.9 steals in 52 games. He will wear No. 7.

The Hawks are monitoring an ankle injury to Schroder and Jack is being brought along slowly in camp as he returns from a torn ACL. The shortage created the need for another point guard in camp. The team released forward Richard Solomon on Saturday to clear a roster spot.
