Budenholzer visits Schroder in Germany

Mike Budenholzer went a long way to pick up a dinner tab.

The Hawks coach said at his exit interview earlier this month that he planned to take several players out for lunch to discuss the completed season and the players’ future after a postseason exit. Budenholzer went to Hamburg, Germany, to meet with Dennis Schroder, the point guard posted on social media Thursday.

Schroder published a photo of the two with a post that read: “All the way from Atlanta to Germany Coach Bud visited me yesterday in Hamburg!! Had great Dinner & talked about a lot of things.”

The Hawks confirmed Thursday that Budenholzer would be out of the country for a time.

Schroder said in his exit interview following the Hawks’ first-round playoff loss to the Wizards that he intended to spend time in his native Germany with the intention of playing for the national team. Schroder completed his first season as the starting point guard and averaged 17.9 points and 6.3 assists in 79 regular-season games. He averaged 24.7 points and 7.7 assists in the team’s six postseason games.
