LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- New Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos was part of a Dodgers front office at the forefront in its use of analytics, cutting-edge technology and other current trends in baseball, and he’s putting together a similarly forward-thinking group in Atlanta.
The Braves and Anthopoulos made two more front-office hires Sunday, pulling Alex Tamin away from the Dodgers to serve as director of major league operations and hiring Jason Pare from the Marlins to become Braves assistant general manager in research and development.
Tamin was director of baseball operations for the Dodgers, working with Anthopoulos, who was Dodgers vice president of baseball operations for two seasons prior to being hired last month as Braves GM and executive vice president.
Tamin handled many of the intricate rules and transactions as well as advance scouting work for the Dodgers, and could serve in a similar role with the Braves. He earned a law degree from UCLA in 1995 and also has 15 years of experience with major league teams on arbitration cases.
Pare worked as senior director of analytics for the Marlins since 2016, after serving as an analyst with the Indians for six seasons through 2013 and with the Blue Jays for two seasons in 2014-2015, when Anthopoulos was Toronto’s GM.
