Time is running out to get Turner Field keepsake

The Atlanta Braves closed down Turner Field with a bang of confetti on Oct. 2, 2016.

As the team prepares for the opening of SunTrust Park in Cobb County, MLB auctions is selling some memorabilia from the final season at the 20-year-old ballpark that will soon be home to Georgia State’s football team.

With much of the stadium being reconditioned, not many stadium items are for sale. Among the items still available are some game-used jerseys, replicas of the bases and home plate, and authentic dirt from the field.

The site describes the dirt samples, sold in 3-ounce jars, as:

Game-Used dirt from the final game at Turner Field - October 2, 2016. Some bottles may contain pieces of confetti from the post-game celebration. Confetti not guaranteed. Bottle is MLB authenticated.

The sale for the dirt vials ends on March 15, 2017.

If you want a positive spin on Mike Foltynewicz’s performance Wednesday night at Coors Field, how about this: The last time he gave up 11 hits and eight runs in 3 1/3 innings, at Washington on June 12, the Braves right-hander pitched really well in his next seven starts. If that pattern repeats, Foltynewicz should be good for most of the remainder...

Swanson’s play – initially ruled an error...
