Ronald Acuna exits AFL game with forearm contusion (updated)

Outfielder Ronald Acuna, the Braves’ top prospect, left Thursday’s Arizona Fall League game with a bruised forearm after he was hit by a mid-90s fastball from Tigers prospect Spencer Turnbull.

He finished the at-bat, but was replaced by Jared James after running the bases.

Acuna is the Braves’ consensus No. 1 prospect and Baseball America’s No. 10 overall.

Acuna has three hits in the first two games for Peoria. He reached base on a throwing error and scored earlier in the game Thursday.

No signings or trades, but Braves say Winter Meetings were productive

The Braves contingent left the first Winter Meetings of the Alex Anthopoulos era without making a trade or free-agent signing, which is not to say their four days at the meetings weren’t productive. They met with the representatives of many free agents and had trade discussions with numerous teams, and there’s a decent chance at least one...

Order the Braves’ 2018 starting rotation

The Atlanta Braves’ starting rotation had a 4.80 ERA last season.  Braves manager Brian Snitker said at baseball's Winter Meetings that he currently projected an opening rotation with Julio Teheran, Mike Foltynewicz and left-handers Sean Newcomb and Luiz Gohara. He suggested the team could look at Max Fried, Lucas Sims or someone else as...

Braves take reliever Gomez from Yankees in Rule 5 Draft

The Braves didn’t make any moves to bolster their bullpen during the first three days of the Winter Meetings, but they did take a reliever from the Yankees in the Rule 5 Draft on Thursday, a player they believe has a chance to stick on the major league roster. They selected Dominican right-hander Anyelo Gomez, 24, with the seventh pick of the...

On bolstering pitching staff, no-trade clauses and Acuna’s path to majors

The Braves haven’t made a move to strengthen their starting rotation and bolster their bullpen, but new general manager Alex Anthopoulos is undeterred with so much time remaining during the offseason and various options for reaching those ends. Some relievers the Braves considered have already signed with other teams – for rather large...

Swanson, Albies could swap places this spring, at least for a look

Don’t be surprised if Braves shortstop Dansby Swanson and second baseman Ozzie Albies swap places during spring training, at least to take some grounders and possibly more. New general manager Alex Anthopoulos knows that both former top prospects came up as shortstops before Albies was switched to second base in 2016 when Braves officials decided...
