The Braves recalled right-hander Matt Wisler from Triple-A Gwinnett and will pitch him out of the bullpen starting with today’s game against the Phillies.

Wisler has made three starts this season for Gwinnett. He provides the Braves another long-relief option to go along with Josh Collmenter, and Braves manager Brian Snitker said both pitchers also can be used in short relief.

To make room on the roster for Wisler, the Braves optioned right-hander Aaron Blair to Gwinnett. The Braves recalled Blair from Gwinnett on Thursday but he didn’t make an appearance over three games on the roster.

“It’s good for Aaron to go back and start and keep trying to stay somewhat regular,” Snitker said. “We probably would have brought Matt up the other day if he hadn’t just pitched because he’s been throwing the ball pretty good. So we will use him out of the bullpen for a while and see how it goes.”

Wisler made 26 starts for the Braves in 2016 (27 total appearances) and posted a 5.00 ERA with 115 strikeouts and 49 walks over 156 2/3 innings. He competed to be the team’s No. 5 starter during spring training before being sent to Gwinnett, where he had a 2.50 ERA in three starts with 11 strikeouts and four walks over 18 innings.
