Braves’ Garcia (hamstring) could be back in lineup Monday

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – The left side of the Braves’ infield has played together in only five games this spring, but shortstop Dansby Swanson and third baseman Adonis Garcia could be in the lineup together for most of the last 1 1/2 weeks of camp.

Swanson could play as soon as Sunday after missing two weeks with a strained right side, manager Brian Snitker said Saturday. Garcia, who’s missed a week since straining his left hamstring, also is nearing his return.

“Adonis is getting better,” Snitker said. “I think it’ll be maybe Monday, hopefully, for him. Get him a couple of at-bats, four innings or so.”

Garcia was 8-for-24 (.333) with a double, a home run and six RBIs in nine games before leaving a March 11 game after one inning with hamstring tightness.

Braves get Flowers grand slam in 6-run inning to rout against Reds

However your Sunday went, chances are it was more enjoyable than Drew Storen’s afternoon at the park. Tyler Flowers hit a grand slam and the Braves pounced on Reds reliever Storen for six runs in the fifth inning of an 8-1 win to avert a sweep at SunTrust Park, where Atlanta rookie Sean Newcomb picked up his second win and first at home by working...

Phillips’ move to 3B: seamless and even spectacular

In case you were wondering, it’s not just the basic “eye test” that tells us Brandon Phillips has been exceptional defensively since moving this month to third base, a position the former Gold Glove second baseman had not played professionally except in a Double-A game in 2001. It’s also statistics, both basic and advanced,...

Dansby has his swagger back since return from Triple-A

To say that Dansby Swanson looks like a different player since returning from a Triple-A demotion wouldn’t be accurate. What he’s looked like is something closely resembling the player he was for most of his entire life outside of the weeks this season when the Braves rookie shortstop struggled like never before and let it affect him outwardly...

Gennett’s ninth-inning slam costs Braves in 11-8 loss to Reds

Two innings did the Braves in. After watching three Reds homer in the sixth inning Friday night, the Braves’ fate was again sealed by the long ball. What looked to be a Scooter Gennett insurance grand slam proved important, costing the Braves an 11-8 defeat to the Reds on Saturday. The team stranded 22 runners on base the past two nights. The...
