Atlanta United’s game against Toronto on Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium had the third-largest crowd among the world’s soccer games played last weekend.
The team announced 71,874 tickets were sold, breaking its own MLS record for a single game. That mark of 70,425 was set against Orlando City on Sept. 16. The Five Stripes could try to break that record again when they host Columbus in the first round of the playoffs on Thursday.
Tottenham Hotspur’s game at Wembley against Liverpool on Sunday had announced ticket sales of 80,287, which set a record for first division soccer in England.
Barcelona’s game against Malaga at Camp Nou on Saturday had announced ticket sales of 74,397.
Atlanta United also finished with the highest season average attendance (48,200) in U.S. soccer history, breaking the mark set by the Cosmos in 1978, and it sold the most tickets in a season in MLS history (819,404).
