Here’s an item that will be in tomorrow’s print edition about “Idol Gives Back.”
With Sanjaya Malakar out of “American Idol,” what’s there to talk about?
For at least one week, the show’s producers have found a worthy distraction: a massive charity event this week which concludes Wednesday with a two-hour extravaganza featuring Bono and Celine Dion.
Through www.americanidol.com or a 1-800 line flashed on-screen, fans will be able to contribute money for charities to help children in Africa and the Gulf Coast area devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Corporations such as AT&T and Coca Cola will also kick in money, though producers haven’t said how much. (In some cases, companies will contribute a portion based on how many votes were tallied for last night’s performances.)
TV has a history of generating huge amounts of cash for charities, from “Live Aid” in 1985 to combat famine in Africa to “A Tribute to Heroes” for the families of victims of 9/11. This is the rare time when a reality show has taken on such a task. But “American Idol” isn’t just any reality show. It’s by far the most popular reality show in American TV history, averaging more than 30 million viewers in its sixth season.
“These kinds of shows can be a little bit depressing if you’re not careful,” said executive producer Ken Warwick on a phone interview to media last week. “It’s going to entertain people and it’s going to move people.”
Instead of the usual one-hour results show, Wednesday’s installment will feature a concert at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. Scheduled acts include Pink, Josh Groban, Rascal Flatts, Gwen Stefani and former “Idol” winners Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. Actors such as Hugh Grant, Jack Black and Helen Mirren will make on-camera pleas and Ellen DeGeneres will host.
Dee..sorry about that! I was still commentng on the other one cause Ms Simmons got me all riled up! Well, not really but I just couldn't walk away from a good fight....LOL
*peeeeeeks* in....hi guys....REALLY busy here! no sleep last night, so i don't know if i'll make it to the b'pound tonight or not!!! hoping just to make it long enough to see them sing and the c-RASH!
list is interesting, sorry kiki is doing 'tasia, oh well... we'll see, i guess... i did not think that song was "all that" when they performed it for the finale, so what do i know?
huggles to everyone who needs/wants one, i'm back outa here!!
shay, to recap - Everyone in the world is uglier than Ms. Simon and therefore does not deserve to live. Her loveliness is so magnificent that her picture is the default wallpaper on her company's desktops.
Oh yeah, I forgot to weigh in on the hotness factor.
For male idol, for me, duh. . .
For female idol it’s close, but I have to go with Haley. She has legs for days and is a smidgen cuter than Kat. Skankanella had bucked teeth and wasn’t even in the ball park. Fantasia is bringing up the rear and won't even place.
Ms. Simon, I wasn't being funny. Once you have made a few comments on here, you are considered a "regular" by the outside folk. And since you have been blogging with us "regular" folk, you are now part of the family. You don't have to agree with comments that everyone make. You are entitled to your opinion. We like it when we have a good debate going on in here. Makes the blog more interesting!!!
shay's right, Ms Simon...you are a regular, like it or not...thusly, you must endure being picked on and disagreed with just like the rest of us. You've been posting comments since the beginning of the season...how could we not consider you a regular?
I'm learning more about the VATech killer than I want to know. The following appeared in an article on abcnews.com:
Seung-Hui Cho hired her to dance for him in a motel room one month before the massacre at Virginia Tech's campus, dancer Chastity Frye said in an on camera interview with at TV station in Roanoke, Va.
"He was so quiet. I really couldn't get much from him. He was so distant. He really didn't like to talk a lot," Frye said in the interview. "It seemed like he wasn't all there." ******************* He seemed like he wasn't all there? Ya think?
Jex, I agree. Haley wins the hot vote, but I give a second to first year rocker Nikki McCibbon. She looks a bit rough today, but she was super fine back in season one.
wow! i thought Ms Simon WAS already a regular when the season started!!! I thought I remembered you (her) from last year near the end of the season!
and heck yeah, we'll disagree witcha, MsS!!! but OMG sometimes, JUST when you think we're all NUTS....someone will freak out and agree!!! (it happens to all of us at one time or another!)
so pull up your chair, pop a beer, or soda, or glass of wine, or milk...or coffee? or..... prop the footsies up and let's get on with the show!!!
without folksies like us, Ms.S, the blawgpound would shrivel up and die! each of us makes it interesting in our own way with each other ...
Cho also had an imaginary girlfriend whom he called Jelly, former roommates told CNN. Cho reportedly described her as a supermodel from outer space whose pet name for Cho was Spanky. ******
Jex, who knows what to believe. But if it's true, it's sad. 32 people lost their lives b/c this guy fell through the cracks. The system, or lack thereof, failed him. But what I'm curious to know is didn't his parents see the cheese sliding off the cracker? He didn't just wake up one morning crazy; mental illness rears its ugly head more than once before it becomes a stalk raving lunatic.
LMAO@shay! It must be jelly 'cause jam don't shake like that.

Be careful on this one. It's because of celebrities like Bono, who evade paying their fair share by hiding their income in off shore tax shelters (February 4th NYT article), that the rest of us have to shell out our hard earned income for these kind of charitable events.
Choc, who knows how crazy a person is or what limits they'll go to? I think my exhusband is a nut, but I don't think he would kill a bunch of people because I won't take him back. But if he did, would everyone blame me? That's not fair. People are accountable for their own actions. Society didn't fail Cho, he was just a damn fool.
There are a lot of people in the world who are different...we can't scream 'crazy' every time someone doesn't behave the way we expect them to. It's very easy to wonder how nobody noticed. These incidents are rare and we always wonder why nobody knew how dangerous the guy was. But, truth is, we don't know, with many people who are suffering from mental illness, that something is wrong. Sometimes people seem depressed or agitated but we don't jump from depressed or agitated to mass murderer easily. Sometimes they behave perfectly normally in a public situation but have all sorts of stuff going on when they're alone. Unless this guy was in some intense form of therapy, most people wouldn't think anything other than he's a little weird.
Jex, you are so right about not knowing how crazy a person is. I have a distant relative who lives in Arkansas and her 60 yr old (preacher) husband stabbed her multiple times in the waiting area of the Dr.'s office she was visiting yesterday. You would think a preacher HAD Jesus, but I guess not.
I agree with all of you in general. However, there were several red flags with Cho that were either ignored or not taken seriously enough.
Flag #1 - his family though he might be a mute as a child Flag #2 - college professor brought his disturbing papers to the attention of authorities Flag #3 & 4 - Two different girls going to campus police cause he was "stalking" them Flag #5 - imaginary girlfriend from outspace
I'm sure ordinary people, who aren't mentally ill, SNAP on occasion. But I don't think this Cho fella was "ordinary people".
Dang Jex. Thanks for knocking Rev Sharpton off of that pedalstal I had him on. Here I was thinking he was the "annointed"....or was that appointed? **scratching my head in confusion**

no simon......i'm the hot guy in the picture...i showed you the hotness baby!now you show me yours!!!
Thanks Choc, Jex and I agree some preachers are looney too. So true Shay, you do have to be careful with who you choose as a mate. You're right Choc, I think little red flags do pop up on occasion but people tend to ignore them, especially when they think they're in love.
Relative of mine was robbed while returning home late one night (leaving his family business). Two guys in a ski mask kicked his door in. He shot both guys. One died in the yard. The other is in critical condition of which he will be charged with "murder" because he caused the chaos by attempting to rob someone. Relative was told to have a nice day by the police!!
