9/25: Pickler joining Rascal Flatts tour
By: Rodney Ho | September 25, 2007, 11:42AM EST

Kellie Pickler, who had been opening for the Brad Paisley tour (but not the date here in Atlanta), will be opening for Rascal Flatts. The incredibly popular country act will be headlining Philips Arena October 19. Ticket info here. Tix go on sale this Saturday with prices ranging from $51.75 to $67.75. Those are odd denominations, arent’ they?

And proving the worldwide appeal of “Idol” contestants, Daughtry is currently in Australia and Elliott is in the Phillipines.

Hootie Hoo!

Posted by: mynana on September 25, 2007 11:38AM EST
Ok, kimmy, I'm having the cottage cheese/shrimp dish with low fat ritz and fresh pineapples for lunch. It looks good. I'm chilling a little in fridge before I dine at noon. Come on over all. there's enough for everyone.

Posted by: mynana on September 25, 2007 11:42AM EST
well, here you go:

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka - This dessert may be a little too rich for you, but you're probably not rich enough for it. A Sri Lankan resort is charging $14,500 for what it calls the world's most expensive dessert, a fruit infused confection complete with a chocolate sculpture and a gigantic gemstone.

"The Fortress Stilt Fisherman Indulgence" was created to give visitors at The Fortress resort in the coastal city of Galle a one-of-a-kind experience, said the hotel's public relations manager, Shalini Perera.

The dessert is a gold leaf Italian cassata flavored with Irish cream, served with a mango and pomegranate compote and a champagne sabayon enlighten. The dessert is decorated with a chocolate carving of a fisherman clinging to a stilt, an age old local fishing practice, and an 80 carat aquamarine stone.

The dessert has to be specially ordered, Perera said. Though the hotel has gotten calls about it from as far away as Japan, she said, no one has yet forked over the money to try it.

Hello, Hello - anybody outthere? All I hear is echo, echo, echo.

Posted by: 1CHOCL8T on September 25, 2007 12:00PM EST
LOL @ Mitch!! Blue Star Ointment may work better on....well, uh, n'mind.

Posted by: Eve07 on September 25, 2007 12:01PM EST
Hi Nana, Kimmy and Mitch.

Mitch I was suprised when I read the article about "Traveler." The networks do make you feel reluctant to watch a show because they don't give them a chance. That show was excellent and I'm really pissed that it probably won't be back. Why didn't they just end it during the summer run?

Posted by: mynana on September 25, 2007 12:07PM EST
My Lila (doggie) likes to lay under the desk while I'm working. She's snoring like crazy. Funny.

Posted by: Mitch on September 25, 2007 12:08PM EST
Exactly Eve. That was left with a big cliffhanger leaving you wanting more. We took Showtime for Big Brother 8. While we had it, we got hooked on Weeds, Californication & Dexter so we decided to keep it. Dexter is a great show about a seriel killer. He kills the scum of the earth.

Choc, I have my Industrial Strength Gold Bond on standby.

Posted by: 1CHOCL8T on September 25, 2007 12:09PM EST
Mitch...I LOVE DEXTER & WEEDS!!! LOL

Posted by: Mitch on September 25, 2007 12:12PM EST
I think the new season of Dexter starts this Sunday.

Posted by: KPH on September 25, 2007 12:14PM EST
A long time Nana. But apparently I am losing my touch LOL!

Posted by: on September 25, 2007 12:20PM EST
are these shows on HBO choc?

Posted by: Mitch on September 25, 2007 12:23PM EST
Shaun, they are on Showtime

Posted by: mynana on September 25, 2007 12:29PM EST
Okay, all you guys are saved. Mark Cuban (Mavs owner) says he is doing DWTS, for "all you guys out there that have to get drunk in order to dance at a club". Don't you feel better and relieved?

Posted by: Mitch on September 25, 2007 12:31PM EST
LOL I'm sure DFW will push him a long ways although he might just surprise us.

Posted by: mynana on September 25, 2007 12:38PM EST
Mitch, it's the big news right now in DFW. All over the place.

Posted by: Mitch on September 25, 2007 12:43PM EST
I remember a coulpe years ago when a former Dallas Cowboy was on there. It was really big in the area.

Posted by: 1CHOCL8T on September 25, 2007 12:48PM EST
Mark Cuban will be interesting simply because he just recently had hip replacement surgery. Many will pull for him and vote b/c of sympathy. Think Heather Mills (who turned out to be not too bad).

Posted by: on September 25, 2007 12:50PM EST
What happened to Wayne Newton's face? Lord WHY do people do that to themselves? He's the male version of Joan Rivers....what ever happened to growing old gracefully?

Posted by: 1CHOCL8T on September 25, 2007 12:55PM EST
Uh-uh..the male version of Joan Rivers is Carrot Top. Have you seen that dude's eyebrows!! OMIGOD! He looks like a freak of nature! Good Lawd!

Another plastic surgery gone bad is Kenny Rogers. People are supposed to recognize WHO you after you've had work done. You're supposed to look like a younger, fresher version of yourself...not a completely different person! LOL

Posted by: on September 25, 2007 12:58PM EST
I just thought Carrot Top was surprised the last time I saw him...jk, LOL. You're right, Kenny Rogers needs to stop too. Also, Bert Reynolds...

Posted by: on September 25, 2007 1:00PM EST
Thanks Mitch, Kimmy, Carrot Top looks like a girl with all that surgery and makeup.

Posted by: on September 25, 2007 1:02PM EST
but he balances it out w/the roids he's on to make him look more manly....NOT! I know, he's hard to look at to me, but funny.

Posted by: 1CHOCL8T on September 25, 2007 1:03PM EST
LOL @ Kimmy & Shaun...he looks like a very UGLY girl at that!!

Posted by: on September 25, 2007 1:05PM EST

Posted by: linnykat on September 25, 2007 1:12PM EST
I wish i had the money to go to some of these shows [reading Rodney's comments] ... I guess I'm just old, but I remember when concerts in Piedmont Park were FREE, Braves games in the outfield seats were $2 for adults $1 for kids, and you could go to a nice show at Chastain for $25.

and i actually remember PRE-ticketmaster (et al.) ticket buying programs that add fees for LETTING you buy a ticket GRRRRR!

ok, back to the document drafting, gotta earn my keep!!!

y'all be cool now heah?

Posted by: linnykat on September 25, 2007 1:15PM EST
ugh sorry, "you could go to a nice show at Chastain for $25 for both of you on a date."

and shows at the fox ran $10-15 and were considered expensive!

Posted by: 1CHOCL8T on September 25, 2007 1:18PM EST
Ticketmaster....oh I hate them with a passion!!

Posted by: on September 25, 2007 1:19PM EST
I remember when milk wasn't $4.49 a gallon and gas was $.79 a gallon....wait! I'm not old, that was only 2 years ago!

Posted by: Jex on September 25, 2007 1:23PM EST
My lunch sucked! Roasted chicken, sweet taters, mac & cheese. The chicken was undercooked, the sweet taters were NOT sweet, and the mac & cheese was cold! eeww! But at least I had a light lunch.

I with you on the ticketmonster, choc.

Hate it. Hate it! HATE it! What do they charge for being evil? Is it $15 or $20 now?

I wanted to go the the 70's Soul Jam, but the dang tix are $75 each then there's a service fee, a bulding fee, a bend over fee and a broomstick fee.

I just couldn't afford it.

Posted by: 1CHOCL8T on September 25, 2007 1:25PM EST
LMBO...Jex, dayum. They want you to pay for the "screw me" device to huh? LOL Evil Bastards!!

If I hear one more Fergie song I'm gonna puke. Sick, sick, sick of her methhead.

anyway....where is everyone? lunch is over!

Posted by: mynana on September 25, 2007 1:38PM EST
Jex, sorry your lunch was not good. Mine was great. Thanks for the receiple Kimmy. I sent hubby to play golf today, so I'll wait for his comment when he gets home.

Plastic surgery - most of the time it looks like they paid for an expensive Halloween Mask, only it's permanent. Especiallly when they get it done, over and over again.

Posted by: on September 25, 2007 1:41PM EST
what recipe Nana? the only recipe I give out is a recipe to whoop ass.

Posted by: mynana on September 25, 2007 1:44PM EST
I thought you gave me the cottage cheese receipe? With the shrimp? OMG, I hope I'm not having a senior moment.

Well, there you go. Definitely a senior momement.

Linny, please forgive me for forgetting. I did love the cottage cheese/shrimp receipe for lunch today. It was very good.

topic: best gift you ever gave or received???

Posted by: 1CHOCL8T on September 25, 2007 1:57PM EST
DAYUM!!

Posted by: mynana on September 25, 2007 2:00PM EST
Well, in our family we considered my grandson's new kidney a gift for all of us.

But me personally, when I first met my husband in 1999, we were looking at pets at a rescue organization and he bought Lila for me. She's been a good companion when he's out of town. So, my Lila.

Posted by: Jex on September 25, 2007 2:06PM EST
Dang Nana. We can't top that.

Posted by: Mitch on September 25, 2007 2:07PM EST
kimmy, my best gift I ever gave. When I was in high school I worked for Wendys. I became really good friends with a woman there. We always joked about getting married and the manager would "preach" the wedding and her husband would be our best man.

Anyway, several years later, I was working in a grocery store and she came in there. It was close to Christmas. I had not seen her in awhile but I knew she was not acting like herself. I asked her what was wrong and she told me her husband had just lost his job and she couldn't bear to see her kids faces on Christmas when they didn't get anything.

I went home and talked to my parents about wanting to help her. Mom suggested since I was early twenties on a budget that I could maybe give her some of my old toys in the attic (most were like new because heaven help anyone that broke one of my toys) but that I should ask her first.

I anxiously awaited her next trip to the store and when she came in I talked to her and she said she was not to good for hand me downs and neither were her kids. I boxed up alot of the toys and gave them to her a few days later.

After Christmas, she was in there just going on and on about how happy her kids were with those toys. I have never forgotten how her face was glowing talking about it. That was over 20 years ago but I started my own tradition with that of trying in some way to help a less fortunate child at Christmas.

Posted by: mynana on September 25, 2007 2:13PM EST
Mitch that's awesome. We have that tradition with my grandson. We take a boy and girl's name off the Wish Tree at church and he buys them gifts. He loves shopping for them too.

Posted by: shay on September 25, 2007 2:13PM EST
what have I missed?

Posted by: Jex on September 25, 2007 2:13PM EST
This one year? I was planning on doing the 3-Day walk for the Susan G. Koeman foundation for breast cancer. But I was having a hard time raising the money.

For my birthday, a friend at work made this beautiful pink fleece blanket. One side was all pink, the other side was patchwork of different pink ribbons all over it. She said I could sell it to help raise money, but I kept it because I didn’t think anyone would have appreciated it like I did.

Posted by: mynana on September 25, 2007 2:27PM EST
Jex, that was a beautiful thoughtful gift.

Posted by: on September 25, 2007 2:28PM EST
My best give was a GPS i got last year.
Mitch, kudos!!!!!
Jex, what you want for xmas this year?

Posted by: Jex on September 25, 2007 2:30PM EST
I told you, I'm still waiting on that 42" Plasma Streen TV.

Posted by: shay on September 25, 2007 2:35PM EST
My best gift. Last Christmas, as you guys already know, I purchased my husband a very large flatscreen t.v and I am hoping that he return the favor and get me my jewelry from Tiffany's this year (wink!)

My son would have to be the best gift I have ever received. If I never get anything else in life, HE makes up for it every single day!

Posted by: on September 25, 2007 2:41PM EST
oh yeah shay, me too, i forgot about my son, he is the greatest gift i could receive.

Posted by: Jex on September 25, 2007 2:46PM EST
I gave a coffee maker.

Okay. This one is a tear jerker.

It took me a while to finish it.

Around February of this year, my dad decided he wanted a coffee maker. In all my life, I’ve known my dad to only drink instant coffee. Maxwell House to be specific.

So why the sudden urge for a coffee maker? He was at his sister’s house a few days before and thought the aroma was so wonderful, he had to have one. My brothers and I thought it was just a whim, so we ignored the request. But he persisted. So on Saturday March 3, I finally gave in and got him this cute little 4-cup coffee maker. He loved it. Said it was perfect. I gave him a quick lesson, then went to the kitchen to find a spot for it. The funny thing is that since he had never made brewed coffee, he didn’t know how to use the filters. By the time I got back he had put about 25 filters in the holder and said he didn’t understand how that would work. I carefully peeled one off and showed him. His face lit up. "Oh! Got it."

On the morning of Tuesday, March 6, he succumbed to his battle with cancer.

Coffee Maker $14.99
Ground Coffee $6.98
Filters: $2.00

The last look I saw on his face –

Priceless.

Posted by: shay on September 25, 2007 2:46PM EST
I NOW understand what unconditional love is !!!!

Posted by: on September 25, 2007 2:49PM EST

Posted by: shay on September 25, 2007 2:58PM EST
I try and be there for friends in their time of need. Like that time I had to bail Jex out of jail for indecent exposure on Christmas Eve.

The gas to drive to the slammer: $3.75

The bail amount: $480.00

The look on Jex's face when I showed up with that blanket: PRICELESS

Posted by: Jex on September 25, 2007 2:58PM EST
Thanks Kimmy.

Posted by: on September 25, 2007 3:00PM EST
leave it to Shay....am I in a Steel Magnolia's movie and nobody told me? Crying one minute and laughing my arse off the next....

Posted by: Deirdre on September 25, 2007 3:00PM EST
Y'all are good people....if I haven't told you that lately...I'm telling you now!

Posted by: Jex on September 25, 2007 3:01PM EST
D, it's amazing. A $15 coffee maker! He was so happy. He aleady had a new cup to use with it - "#1 Dad", that one of us had gotten for him ages ago.

Shay, that blanket had a funny smell to it. What were you doing with it?! I told you it was special!

Posted by: Jex on September 25, 2007 3:03PM EST
D, lately you've been cussin' us out and yellin' and stuff.

It's all good though. We're family!

Posted by: Deirdre on September 25, 2007 3:03PM EST
Sometimes it's the little stupid stuff we do rather than the grand gestures that we need to be proudest of!

Not that I don't enjoy grand gestures....:-)

Posted by: mynana on September 25, 2007 3:04PM EST
Oh man, does that mean we're going to see Jex and Shay on Judge Judy in one of those cases where the friend "loaned" the money to the other friend to "bail them out" and they promised to pay back and didn't and then they got mad at each other and now the one friend wants her money back things.

Posted by: Deirdre on September 25, 2007 3:05PM EST
It's only a matter of time, mynana!

Posted by: shay on September 25, 2007 3:06PM EST
mynana, whenever you give Jex money, it's never a loan. YOU AIN'T GETTIN' IT BACK!

Posted by: on September 25, 2007 3:06PM EST
the greatest gift i ever gave was a garbage bag and a note...full of my ex'es shizz and a note that said get the f out!

it actually ended up being a gift to myself.

Posted by: Deirdre on September 25, 2007 3:06PM EST
My yellin' days are over for awhile, Jex...I'm just all tuckered out!

Posted by: Jex on September 25, 2007 3:08PM EST
LOL @ kimmy!! Are you serious?!

That's a good one!

Posted by: mynana on September 25, 2007 3:09PM EST
shay, that's just the defense they always use, It was a gift, not a loan.

Posted by: shay on September 25, 2007 3:10PM EST
Besides, Jex and I bail each other out of jail all the time. She got me out last time because me and RC got in a little spat...... I can't remember but it was something about he being married and had kids and a grandbaby on the way. Next thing I remember, I was holding a plate in front of me taking pictures. I wonder whatever happened to Ara that night.

Posted by: Deirdre on September 25, 2007 3:12PM EST
I have a fun family story.

You may have noticed that a video game called Halo III went on sale today. Big deal in the video game circuit. My Greg works for the company that cast the voices for the game. He flew to Seattle yesterday with his boss to attend the 'launch party' for the game and ended up shaking hands and chatting with Bill Gates! I asked him if he hit ol' Bill up for a loan but Greg thought they might be too early in their friendship for that! :-)

Posted by: on September 25, 2007 3:14PM EST
you know me Jexy, of course that's true!!!

i can't choose which gift was the best from my hubby, there have been so many sweet ones. but that was the best gift to myself for sure.

Posted by: 1CHOCL8T on September 25, 2007 3:14PM EST
WTH?!!!

The blog is supposed to be my "HAPPY PLACE"!! Now I've gotta walk to the supply closet to get some freakin Kleenex!!!

DAYUM! JUST, DAYUM!

When I come back there had better be some fun loving crazy humored jokes or story telling.

***somebody gotta put a stop to these Hallmark commercials***

Posted by: shay on September 25, 2007 3:15PM EST
mynana, when I first met Jex, I loved her personality. She was so bubbly. Made me laugh. Just a good all around gal. Then, about two weeks later, I let her charge $8,000 on my credit card. I put a cell phone for her in my name that she ran up $3,000. She slept with him man after I moved her in my house. And then, she tried to turn my mother against me. After two weeks, I thought we really trusted each other. Now I want to sue her. I never thought we would fall out like this. We were the best of friends.

Posted by: mynana on September 25, 2007 3:18PM EST
Shay - you just described the typical Judge Judy case. She'll love. Call now. Save yourself. JJ is there for you. Hurry quick. Make sure your dress scruffy for court and keep interupting JJ cause she really likes that. Oh, and forget your stuff. She likes it mostly when your unprepared.

Posted by: shay on September 25, 2007 3:20PM EST
I don't have any supporting documentation to back up all of these allegations. She even wrecked my car of which she promised to give me $75.00 a week for repairs until it's paid off. But I didnt' get that in writing either.

Posted by: on September 25, 2007 3:20PM EST
D..meh Bill Gates, I'm still hung up on him running into Bradley. lucky dog

Posted by: Deirdre on September 25, 2007 3:23PM EST
kimmy...you can add Samuel L. Jackson and Colin Farrell to that list. That kid is having a great time out in LaLaLand!

Posted by: on September 25, 2007 3:24PM EST
wow! does he need an assistant? he could be my agent.

Posted by: shay on September 25, 2007 3:24PM EST
But on a serious matter, Jex that was a very touching story. I am glad your last moment with your dad was a happy one. You can always have those memories when you think about him.

Posted by: mynana on September 25, 2007 3:25PM EST
D - I got to see Jobs testify in a trial once. Does that count?
