8/27: The tour slogs on
By: Rodney Ho | August 27, 2007, 11:37AM EST

The “Idols Live” tour slogs on. I need to check with Pollstar to see how the show is doing attendance wise. It hit my home market of Long Island over the weekend and that means we get to hear how those New York critics took it.

The New York Times could have been a lot meaner but did opt for that over-arching cliche: “a show that amounted to high-energy karaoke.”

Glenn Gamboa in Newsday notes that this year it’s more about “musicianship” because the “Idols” play more instruments. He was actually very kind, though he said Blake had trouble hitting his high notes. It sounds like they’ve added and changed some songs from earlier in the tour. Gina Glocksen is singing a current Pink song “Who Knew” and Chris Sligh is now trying out Fall Out Boy’s “Thanks fr th Mmrs.”

On Sunday night at the Teen Choice Awards on Fox, Sanjaya won “choice” reality show entertainer and of course, “Idol” won best reality show.

And the “Next Great American Band” (on Fox debuting Oct. 19) will feature Sheila E. (“The Glamorous Life”) and the Goo Goo Dolls’ Johnny Rzeznik as judges. Australian Idol’s Ian “Dicko” Dickson will be the third judge, possibly filling in the Simon role. And New Zealand Idol host Dominic Bowden is hosting. More details in this USA Today story.

Down in Philly, the final auditions are up and running. And it looks like the biggest, probably because it’s really the only audition for the entire Northeast. The Inqirurer said a whopping 13,000 people registered in the first eight hours.

Has anyone ever gone to one of these Idol tours. Somehow I didn't think I would enjoy it. I did see Taylor in concert. It was a great show. He really entertains well.

Headline in Charlotte Observer:

More storms coming; heat streak in jeopardy

So we only have 27 consecutive days of 90 degree + days. No one is going to sit down and cry if we don't break the record of 33 days.

A better headline would be:

More storms coming; relief in sight from the heat!

Posted by: mynana on August 27, 2007 11:35AM EST
We're supposed to be in the low 90s and upper 80s this week. Rain the end of the week. I'm going to Colo. on Thursday, hope no rain delays. My brother tells me its in the 90s there with 60s at night. It's gonna be hotter in Colo than here.

Went to a youtube sight. Play this (go past the rosie/elizabeth thing). It reminds me of the protests we used to have during the Vietnam War. It's actually pretty good. Song is from that time too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEQ7x2L_lTw

4th or 5th...Time for lunch. What's on the menu today? ;-)

Posted by: Luvstoread on August 27, 2007 11:51AM EST
FYI... For all the Hogan fans out there..

Update: A hospital spokesperson says that Nick is "no longer a patient" at Bayfront Medical Center, and police have clarified that Nick's injuries were not life-threatening.

Thanks Luvs.

It's Soooo Hot!

1) The birds have to use potholders to pull worms out of the ground.

2) The trees are whistling for the dogs.

3) The best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance.

4) Hot water now comes out of both taps.

5) You can make sun tea instantly.

6) You learn that a seat belt buckle makes a pretty good branding iron.

7) The temperature drops below 95 F (35 C) and you feel a little chilly.

8) You discover that in August it only takes 2 fingers to steer your car.

9) You discover that you can get sunburned through your car window.

10) You actually burn your hand opening the car door.

11) You break into a sweat the instant you step outside at 7:30 a.m.

12) Your biggest bicycle wreck fear is, "What if I get knocked out and end up lying on the pavement and cook to death?"

13) You realize that asphalt has a liquid state.

14) The potatoes cook underground, so all you have to do is pull one out and add butter, salt and pepper.

15) Farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying boiled eggs.

16) The cows are giving evaporated milk.

Where's everybody at?

Posted by: Justin on August 27, 2007 1:25PM EST
Hmm, they didn't show Sanjaya winning... he really doesn't deserve one of them nice surf boards for performing bad...but anyways...someone I know went to one of the concerts...she got some really great pics, one of her friends sat pretty close and got some nice shots of Haley, Melinda, forget who else there was. Then she was further back but got pretty good shots of Lakisha and Blake, Gina, Phil... she said it was a pretty cool concert

Posted by: flat screen on August 27, 2007 1:27PM EST
I just found out that mike vick has the same lawyers that repersented Jason Williams...miracle team...Mike should've taken this thing to court!

Posted by: mynana on August 27, 2007 1:29PM EST
Good to know the concert is good. I always figured it would be like one of those (when I was a teen back in the stone age) "Up With People" type concerts. These kids use to tour all the high schools and preform back in the 70s.

Posted by: Jex on August 27, 2007 1:46PM EST
Wayne Newton!! OMG I LOVE Wayne Newton!!

Dunkashane (or however you spell it)
Darling, dunkashane.
Thank you for
All the joy and pain. . .

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaghhhhh! Wayne Newton!!!

I went to Applebees and had a BLT and Ceasar salad from their new pick-a-pair menu. They only give you half a sandwich and half a salad. I was pissed until I realized I had room for dessert! Yay!

Posted by: War Eagle on August 27, 2007 1:55PM EST
All the good knights were leaving for the Crusades. One knight told his best friend " My bride is without doubt one of the most beautiful women in the world. It would be a terrible waste if no man could have her. Therefore, as my best and most trusted friend, I am leaving you the key to her chastity belt to use should I not return from the Crusade."
The company of knights were only a mile or so out of town when they noticed a cloud of dust approaching. Thinking it might be an important message from the town the column halted.
A horseman approached. It was the knight's best friend. He said
Hey, you gave me the wrong key!!

Eagle...do you think Auburn will handle K State with ease?

Posted by: flat screen on August 27, 2007 2:03PM EST
That really sounds good Jexy.

Posted by: Jex on August 27, 2007 2:06PM EST
He was just trying to give it some air.

Posted by: on August 27, 2007 2:10PM EST
JEX, I had the same thing at Jason's Deli and the salad and half of sandwich, it was good.

Posted by: War Eagle on August 27, 2007 2:10PM EST
Flats, I don't really know what to expect. We are replacing 4 starters on the O-line. Cox is healthy again so his play should improve. I don't know much about K state but I think we'll win by 14. Everyone watch out for #10 Tray Blackmon at linebacker. He is a Lagrange boy that will take your head off. I just hope that he does not get suspended again. He has all the potiental but he can't get his act together.

Posted by: flat screen on August 27, 2007 2:15PM EST
Eagle..i just saw the line sitting there at 14...I thought that was alot.uga's giving up 7 points.

Posted by: Jex on August 27, 2007 2:16PM EST
But Shaun, I wanted the WHOLE sandwich. I was hungry!

Posted by: on August 27, 2007 2:21PM EST
LOL@ Jex, i hear ya, i guess the salad i made was so HUGE that the half sandwich was enough for me, next time make your salad bigger.

Posted by: Jex on August 27, 2007 2:25PM EST
They don't let you MAKE nuthin' at Applebees. It's "Here ya go." Two leaves and a crouton. Mmmmm, good eatin'!

But how 'bout I went to Golden Corral on Saturday and could only eat one plate of food. WTLH?

Posted by: on August 27, 2007 2:32PM EST
1 plate at golden coral??? That is sacreligous (sp) I become a professional eater when I step into the coral. I sart off witha huge salad, and add crab salad to it, then i move to the steak, then i move to chicken, by this time i am feeling full, so i lean to my left, so all my food can shift into the curve of my stomach, then after about 5 mins, I am ready for roast beef, with mashed potatoes, then I go0 back to the salad bar, but not a full plate this time, only half, and i get a breast to go with it, and then I have ice cream and cake for dessert.

Posted by: flat screen on August 27, 2007 2:34PM EST
dude..you can really eat...that's aweome!

Posted by: Jex on August 27, 2007 2:34PM EST
LOL! Lean to the Left! I didn't think of that.

Whose brest do you get with the second salad, and why don't your wife say something about it?

Posted by: on August 27, 2007 2:36PM EST
off the bar Jex.

Posted by: flat screen on August 27, 2007 2:36PM EST
LOL! @ JEX

Posted by: shay on August 27, 2007 2:38PM EST
Dayum Shaun! Eating for two?? Whenever I go to Golden Coral, always get the same thing. Fried chicken (1 piece), white rice with gravy, broccoli and one of those nice dinner rolls. Some times I throw a few fried shrimp on the side with a cup of water and for dessert, don't puke, but I eat a big slice of chocolate cake with Orange Sherbet Ice Cream on the side loaded with Gummie Bears on top.

Posted by: shay on August 27, 2007 2:40PM EST
I'm lactoseintolerate so Sherbet Ice Cream is best.

Posted by: Jex on August 27, 2007 2:40PM EST
Oh. Right Shaun.

Flats, I think it was some hanky panky goin' on with one of the servers and he just doesn't want to admit it.

Posted by: flat screen on August 27, 2007 2:41PM EST
YALL ARE SO CRAZY..I like too eat too..i love food.

Posted by: Jex on August 27, 2007 2:42PM EST
shay, I can't stand lactose either, but I get my peach cobbler and ice cream every time.

Posted by: on August 27, 2007 2:44PM EST
i think i am becoming lactoseintol, if i drink milk after 8pm now, I have gas and heartburn really bad through the night, never happened before this year... Is it age?

Posted by: shay on August 27, 2007 2:45PM EST
Jex, when I go to dairy queen, I just suffer the consequences later. I have to have a Brownie Earthquake. Aren't they like 2200 calories? I can eat two of those. Then later on that afternoon, my vision is blurred, speech is slurred, and body feels woozy because that lactose has did a number on me. So I usually just pass out on the floor for a hour starring at the ceiling. Everybody knows to just leave me there. I always snap out of it.

Posted by: shay on August 27, 2007 2:46PM EST
Shaun, we need to meet up there one night with our families. Do you go to the one on 78? I am always up there.

Posted by: Luvstoread on August 27, 2007 2:47PM EST
Howdy all...
Did I miss much. Thankfully, I am not the least bit lactose intolerant. Since I love cereal, it would be a bummer. And, don't even mention that chalky soy milk...Yuk!!!

Posted by: on August 27, 2007 2:48PM EST
we alternate between that one and Gwinnet place mall, I like Gwinnett better.

Posted by: on August 27, 2007 2:48PM EST
Shay, i am game to meet up there though.

Posted by: on August 27, 2007 2:49PM EST
Luvs, yes, you missed how to become hungry after you have eaten a full meal. lol

Posted by: shay on August 27, 2007 2:52PM EST
Me no likey the one at Gwinnett Mall anymore. I think I own stock there. I have been to that one at least 89 times. What about breakfast? Do y'all go there for breakfast?

Posted by: on August 27, 2007 2:52PM EST
lean to the left? i need to remember that!LOL!!! shay, you remember the hot fudge brownie delight at DQ? That shizz was the best, then they changed it and I don't like the new one. so, i get the hot fudge sundae w/whipped cream, extry hot fudge and easy on the ice cream.

Posted by: Jex on August 27, 2007 2:55PM EST
shay, you stupid.

Posted by: shay on August 27, 2007 2:55PM EST
Kimmy, OMG, I ate a strawberry short cake at Bruster's the other day and had gained 3 pounds. It cost like $25. Why is their ice cream so high. I guess they have to make up for the winter months. They better start sellin' wennies and hamburgers or something because a $25 icecream cone ain't gonna get it.

Posted by: Mitch on August 27, 2007 2:56PM EST
Now this is DRY!!

It's so dry in NC

That the Baptist are starting to baptize by sprinkling,

The Methodists are using wet-wipes,

The Presbyterians are giving rain checks,

And the Catholics are praying for the wine to turn back into water!

Posted by: on August 27, 2007 2:56PM EST
Shay, not for Breakfast, we usually go to i hop. But how bout last sat we decided we wanted the Original pancake house, and drove over to pleseant Hill and it was closed!!!!! We were so mad! They have closed down completely!

Posted by: Luvstoread on August 27, 2007 2:57PM EST
Kimmy...
Did you ever have the hot fudge cake at Shoney's? Talk about your sugar high!! ;-)

Posted by: shay on August 27, 2007 2:58PM EST
LMAO at Shaun! I like IHOP, but for some reason, their flap cakes taste raw to me. I think Waffle House has the best tasting breakfast if you can get past the pee smell, flies, and azz cracks showing. Other than that, the two eggs scrambled with cheese and raisin toast is the bomb!

Posted by: shay on August 27, 2007 2:59PM EST
I like Shoney's breakfast. But they have turned all of the Georgia Shoney's into chinese buffets. They all closed down. I hated the bar at lunch though. No meat and too much salad.

Posted by: on August 27, 2007 2:59PM EST
ya'll are making me hungry for bad stuff!!!!! bruster's is high and their ice cream is too soft for my taste-i love me some cold stone creamery tho! good god!!! chocolate devotion baby--prepare to gain about 4 pounds! ihop has the best pancakes too. i think i'll go to ihop for dinner and have some pancakes and then go to cold stone for dessert!

Posted by: Justin on August 27, 2007 2:59PM EST
I didn't think I'd be one to say it but it does look to be that Kelly Clarkson is getting a little bigger, i wouldn't say fat like other people would say but the pic... looks a little bigger... the arm and fingers idk, link's below.. if it works

Their chocolate chip waffles are the best!!

Posted by: on August 27, 2007 3:01PM EST
LMAO @ Shay!!!!!!!!! why does Waffle house smell like pee?

Posted by: shay on August 27, 2007 3:02PM EST
Luvs, I love Waffle House's food but on Sunday morning, I just don't feel like watching fights behind the counter, and looking at people's throat all morning because no one has any teeth. I guess Waffle House don't have a dental plan. You only get medical insurance.

Posted by: Jex on August 27, 2007 3:02PM EST
Ooh! I like the banana split blizzard with wet nuts. Sweet, holy, heaven that thing is good. And I think it's only 5 calories. 3 without the nuts.

Posted by: Luvstoread on August 27, 2007 3:04PM EST
Kimmy...
You are right Cold Stone is the best!! Their peanut butter explosion is one of my favorites!!

Posted by: shay on August 27, 2007 3:05PM EST
Kimmy, the bathrooms are so freakin' close to the booths and they only clean them like once a month so that's why the whole place stinks. I usually have to sit on the other side of the restrooms to not even think about the bathroom. Lordy, if my three year old has to use the potty, I would rather he pee in his clothes. It's that nasty in there.

Posted by: shay on August 27, 2007 3:10PM EST
WTH is Cold Stone??

Posted by: YoDaddy on August 27, 2007 3:12PM EST
Oh my god shay - you have kids and you have never been to Cold Stone? They have this really rich ice cream and you can order from about a hundred different things to mix in and they do it on a freezing cold slab of marble so the ice cream doesn't melt when they mix the stuff in.

Posted by: Mitch on August 27, 2007 3:13PM EST
Yo, Eric did not use the veto.

Posted by: shay on August 27, 2007 3:14PM EST

Posted by: Jex on August 27, 2007 3:17PM EST
Shay, Cold Stone is the place where you would pass stone cold out from too much lactose.

THAT'S where we need to meet!

Posted by: shay on August 27, 2007 3:17PM EST
LOL at Eve! It's the truth.

Quik Trip, when your arse is broke! Best dayum Flintstone pushup you could ever eat. And, they are only 70 calories.

Posted by: Jex on August 27, 2007 3:22PM EST
Shay, I don't think they have them where you are in South Carolina.

Posted by: shay on August 27, 2007 3:24PM EST
Member when the ice cream truck used to come around and you could get er' body in the house an ice cream with like $3.00. Well, I stopped the truck the other day in my sub division to get the four of us some ice cream and why did I have to use a bank card? $2.50 for a bomb pop?

Posted by: Luvstoread on August 27, 2007 3:24PM EST
Shay..
There is one in just about every neighborhood. Not sure where you live. There is one is Decatur.

Jex.. Good idea. Now we have to decide on which one to meet. ;-)...

Oh well, it's almost that time of day. Time to make like a bee and buzz on out of here. Think I might go see the Nanny Diaries tonight this afternoon.

Take care blawgers...

In the SEC we don't grab other mens SCROTUMS

The rancor in the Red River Rivalry apparently doesn't die between football or basketball seasons.
An Oklahoma City man has been charged with aggravated assault and battery, accused of causing extensive damage to another man's scrotum just because he wore a University of Texas shirt into a local bar.

Allen Michael Beckett, 53, has not been arrested on the felony charge, which was filed Monday in Oklahoma County District Court. It carries up to five years in prison if he is convicted.

Beckett is accused of having launched a verbal attack on Brian Thomas when the other man walked into Henry Hudson's Pub at 3509 NW 58 on June 17, according to court documents.

What happened
Thomas said Beckett, whom he had never met, called him "everything under the sun” for wearing a Longhorns T-shirt into the bar.
He said he and his friend sat at a table in the corner and tried to ignore the other man, but other man — who apparently is a University of Oklahoma fan — kept screaming at him.

Thomas said he decided he'd had enough after about 20 minutes of Beckett's abuse so he went to the bar to pay his tab. When he turned around, he said Beckett grabbed his crotch and refused to let go.

Thomas hit the other man several times before several bar patrons intervened, but Thomas said Beckett didn't let go until Thomas heard his scrotum tear and blood ran down his leg.

Thomas, who grew up a Texas fan, said it took more than 60 stitches to close his wound.

Two months later, he said he still is a lot of pain. The injury also caused Thomas to fall behind on his child support payments because he couldn't work.

Beckett could not be reached for comment Wednesday by The Oklahoman.

thanks girl....this boy will!

Posted by: shay on August 27, 2007 3:31PM EST
I know Jex. But I thought I was doing something special for the boys by taking them to the ice cream truck. I had to go back in the house and go in my stash and get some more money before I could by the ice creams. And lil' man wanted his in a cup so you know the cup ice creams cost another two dollars on top of the three dollars. And the wooden little fake arse spoon they give you was 10 cents. WTF?

Posted by: on August 27, 2007 3:34PM EST
LOL!!!just razzing w/you flats. i'm supposed to go w/a friend of mine but i don't think i'll be able to-schedule difficulty. i'll keep my ears open tho.

shay, that's the dayum truth-i did the same thing for my kids and let me tell you something-we're in the wrong business, ice cream man pulled out about $1,000 when he gave me some change. he's like the santa claus of the summer. makes more money in a couple months than i do all year!
