8/24: Sparks single out today
By: Rodney Ho | August 24, 2007, 8:44AM EST

This is Jordin Sparks’ now.

Her single “Tattoo” is coming out on AOL’s Popeater music blog today. Here’s the link

“Right after I heard the first chorus, I was like, ‘I wanna sing that song. I have to have it. I wanna sing it,’” she told the Associated Press..

I just listened to “Tattoo” and I have to say, it’s catchy and Jordin pulls it off with aplomb. I hope top 40 radio at least gives it a chance.

Her album is set to come out November 20 with a mix of pop-rock and ballads. Oh, and a wee bit of country, too. Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, anybody?

Critics are moaning about Ryan Seacrest hosting the Emmys since he’s not really a comedian..

I just read that Nicole Ritchie served a whole 87 minutes in prison. I can't believe they made it so hard on her.

I saw that Mitchy....nice mugshot too. At least she didn't act like a complete spoiled baby, crying for her mommy like her bff poser hilton did.

Morning all...

Warner Robbins is in the little league finals. They play Lubbock Texas tomorrow at 3:30. Should be a good game.

Someone requested Chicago yesterday...

25 or 6 to 4 - Chicago

Waiting for the break of day
Searching for something to say
Dancing lights againnst the sky
Giving up I close my eyes
Sitting cross-legged on the floor
25 or 6 to 4

Staring blindly into space
Getting up to splash my face
Wanting just to stay awake
Wondering how much I can take
Should have tried to do some more
25 or 6 to 4

Feeling like I ought to sleep
Spinning room is sinking deep
Searching for something to say
Waiting for the break of day
25 or 6 to 4
25 or 6 to 4

Here is a good Brooks and Dunn song for a fine Friday morning in the greatest country in the world!

Sun coming up over New York City
School bus driver in a traffic jam
Starin' at the faces in her rearview mirror
Looking at the promise of the Promised Land
One kid dreams of fame and fortune
One kid helps pay the rent
One could end up going to prison
One just might be president

Only in America
Dreaming in red, white and blue
Only in America
Where we dream as big as we want to
We all get a chance
Everybody gets to dance
Only in America

Sun going down on an La. freeway
Newlyweds in the back of a limousine
A welder's son and a banker's daughter
All they want is everything
She came out here to be an actress
He was the singer in a band
They just might go back to Oklahoma
And talk about the stars they could have been

Only in America
Where we dream in red, white and blue
Only in America
Where we dream as big as we want to
We all get a chance
Everybody gets to dance
Only in America

Yeah only in America
Where we dream in red, white and blue
Yeah we dream as big as we want to

Here's my contribution....:)

I make my living off the evening news
Just give me something-something I can use
People love it when you lose,
They love dirty laundry

Well, I coulda been an actor, but I wound up here
I just have to look good, I dont have to be clear
Come and whisper in my ear
Give us dirty laundry

Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down
Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down
Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down
Kick em when theyre up
Kick em all around

We got the bubble-headed-bleach-blonde who
Comes on at five
She can tell you bout the plane crash with a gleam
In her eye
Its interesting when people die-
Give us dirty laundry

Can we film the operation?
Is the head dead yet?
You know, the boys in the newsroom got a
Running bet
Get the widow on the set!
We need dirty laundry

You dont really need to find out whats going on
You dont really want to know just how far its gone
Just leave well enough alone
Eat your dirty laundry

Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down
Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down

Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down
Kick em when theyre stiff
Kick em all around

Dirty little secrets
Dirty little lies
We got our dirty little fingers in everybodys pie
We love to cut you down to size
We love dirty laundry

We can do the innuendo
We can dance and sing
When its said and done we havent told you a thing
We all know that crap is king
Give us dirty laundry!

Posted by: on August 24, 2007 9:02AM EST
"we can do the innuendo?" i always thought it was "we can do it in the window...." and i always thought it was "fingers in everybody's eye"....

I'm not sure how quickly this will update but here's the link to Jordin's single, which is actually pretty good for a pop song:

25 or 6 to 4?

This song evidently makes Jexy feel perplexy, so I took the challenge and the liberty to do a lil research on the lyrics and came up with this tidbit:

The song "25 or 6 to 4" appeared on "Chicago II" and was written by organist/vocalist Robert Lamm. The title and lyrics have puzzled many since it appeared in 1970. Some say it's a drug reference, suggesting a unit of measurement involving the quantity of joints that can be rolled from a what-used-to-be dime bag. Some feel it's about looking for spiritual revelation, undergoing a mysterious soul-searching journey.

Perhaps you're too young to recall that in the late '60s and '70s it was a popular parlour game--if not quite an intellectual pursuit--to read hidden messages and double meanings into song lyrics. Many people thought "Hey Jude" was about shooting heroin. Just about everything Bob Dylan wrote went through hours of scrutiny by his fans. Did you ever check into the "Hotel California" by the Eagles? Many of the Rolling Stones songs were supposedly about drugs, though it's hard to ignore the more explicit meanings ("You make a dead man come.") What about "I Am the Walrus," which was supposedly written on an acid trip about Paul McCartney's greatly exaggerated and rumored demise? Goo goo g'joob, baby.

Lamm says it's simpler than that. "The song is about writing a song. It's not mystical," he says. Take a look at some of the lyrics:

Waiting for the break of day--He's been up all night and now it's getting close to sunrise.
Searching for something to say--Trying to think of song lyrics.
Flashing lights against the sky--Perhaps stars or the traditional flashing neon hotel sign.
Giving up I close my eyes--He's exhausted and his eyes hurt from being open too long, so he closes them.
Staring blindly into space--This expression can be seen often on the faces of writers and reporters. Trust me.
Getting up to splash my face--Something you do when you're trying to stay awake, though a good cup of Starbuck's does wonders for Cecil and me.
Wanting just to stay awake, wondering how much I can take--How far can he push himself to get the song done?
Should I try to do some more?--This is the line that makes many think it's a drug song. But it is just as easily construed as a frustrated writer wondering if he should try to do some more lyrics/songwriting.

As for the curious title, Lamm says, "It's just a reference to the time of day"--as in "waiting for the break of day" at 25 or (2)6 minutes to 4 a.m. (3:35 or 3:34 a.m.)

I think we can take Lamm's word for the whole thing. Because, when it's that early in the morning, does anybody really know what time it is?

all FWIW,
RC

Interesting point KPH bout them Georgia boys was made on the Braves broadcast the other night. They were saying that players like Frenchy and McCann, etc were local talent on the team because of the success of the Braves beginning in 1991. It had an effect on kids in that they all wanted to play baseball......Ga has come up some in the bigs.

Another song with "hidden" messages. It was always said this the "magic dragon" was marijuana...

Peter Paul And Mary - Puff, The Magic Dragon Lyrics

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,
Little Jackie Paper loved that rascal Puff,
and brought him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff.Oh

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee.

Together they would travel on a boat with billowed sail
Jackie kept a lookout perched on Puff's gigantic tail,
Noble kings and princes would bow whene'er they came,
Pirate ships would lower their flag when Puff roared out hisname. Oh!

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee.

A dragon lives forever but not so little boys
Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys.
One grey night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more
And Puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar.

His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain,
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane.
Without his life-long friend, Puff could not be brave,
So Puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave. Oh!

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee.

Howdy Mitch..
I went for the deluxe breakfast platter and sweet tea at MickeyD's...
KPH..
I had every intention of watching the game, but I got engrossed in watching shows I wanted to watch on my DVR. I will be watching the game tomorrow afternoon though.

Posted by: Luvstoread on August 24, 2007 9:51AM EST
Rodney..
I actually liked it. It sort of has a TLC feel to it...
Now, will it play on TOP 40 radio?

Posted by: shay on August 24, 2007 9:56AM EST
A TLC feel? I was thinkin' the opposite. If I were a record producer listening to this record for the first time, I would pass. The song sounds good, but it doesn't have that "ump" feeling to it. It sounds like several other songs mixed into one. I still don't know how she is going to do as a pop artist. My guess is she won't sell any more albums that Katherine but that's just my opinion. If she starts doing a few duets with some R&B artists or other big Pop artists, she may get hit song but other than that, I don't have high hopes for the Idol winners anymore. There will never be another Chris Daughtry, Barrino, Clarkston, or Underwood. Sorry!

The show and its winners have run its course.

Posted by: Luvstoread on August 24, 2007 10:00AM EST
Shay..
I was thinking Unpretty..
At least, you can understand what she is singing. And, personally I think her voice is much better than Katherine's anyway. Time will tell....

Posted by: on August 24, 2007 10:08AM EST
Like I said, I thought it was just ok. It was cheesy to me and didn't leave stay in my mind, hell I can't even remember how it sounded now. I think she has a good voice but it sounds like everything else that's on the radio now that I just turn off. I have to agree w/Shay. Unless there is someone who is very original with a very distinctive-good voice, I'm not sure there will be another successful artist from AI. and I'm thinking Simon is sensing that as well which is why he will be done in 2010, if the show makes it that long. Just my opinion.

Posted by: shay on August 24, 2007 10:08AM EST
O.k., I can see a small resemblance of Unpretty. But that wasn't a big hit for TLC. It did o.k.

Her voice is definitely better than Kat's but I still don't have any high hopes for the AI winners. There are only a hand full of producers out there that are making hits with Pop/RB artists. Maybe the AI winners are with the wrong record company. I don't know. But like you said, time will tell.

Posted by: shay on August 24, 2007 10:12AM EST
When I watch AI now, its like I am watching a good throw back show. We get to listen to songs that we haven't heard in years and dance to them instead of some of the crap they play on the radio today. I don't really see it as a competition anymore, especially now that we know all the behind scenes crap and them putting no talent through.

Posted by: Luvstoread on August 24, 2007 10:17AM EST
Kimmy and Shay...
Pop music is pretty much dead now. Where are the great ballads or duets? If it's not R&B, Rock, or especially Hip Hop, you really don't here it on the radio now. ;-( There are a few exceptions though.. like Christina...

Posted by: on August 24, 2007 10:19AM EST
I remember the Janis Joplin-esque girl from the auditions/hollywood round--she was the taxi cab driver, i think? i thought she was good and different but she didn't make it and freaking sanjaya did. somebody should be slapped for that. i guess they thought they had a rocker girl in gina who may have been cuter but she turned out to be a bit of a poser snooze for me. i hope the judges and producers get it together this year because if not, i won't be watching.

Posted by: on August 24, 2007 10:22AM EST
Luvs, you took the words right outta my mouth. I like Christina and Justin but really other than that, I have been listening to my CD's w/people that can really sing. When people starting pushing Paris-I screw anything to get publicity-Hilton's "song," that's about when I'd had enough.

Posted by: KPH on August 24, 2007 10:27AM EST
Thanks for the research on 25 or 6 to 4 RC it makes a lot more sense now and is a great ROCKER of a song. Also I have noticed a lot of home grown talent on the Braves roster as well as a lot of other MLB teams. Just this season the Braves have Frenchy, Willie Harris, McCann, Tim Hudson and had Kyle Davies until he got demoted all from Georgia and all but Davies GREAT players. So there is a lot of weight in the theory that the Braves success has trickled down all the way to Little Leaguers. The team that won the Little league world series last year from Columbus as well as the one from Warner Robbins this season are well coached and gifted little athletes and the championship that they won and hopefully will win is a TRUE world championship with teams from all over the world in the tournament. GO WARNER ROBBINS!!!

Kimmy..
I love POP music here. So, thank God for Rhapsody, Music Match, Yahoo Music Unlimited, and Satellite radio.. ;-)

Here is one dedicated to the Warner Robbins All Star Little League soon to be World Champion team!

Well, beat the drum and hold the phone - the sun came out today!
Were born again, theres new grass on the field.
A-roundin third, and headed for home, its a brown-eyed handsome man;
Anyone can understand the way I feel.

Chorus:
Oh, put me in, coach - Im ready to play today;
Put me in, coach - Im ready to play today;
Look at me, I can be centerfield.

Well, I spent some time in the mudville nine, watchin it from the bench;
You know I took some lumps when the mighty casey struck out.
So say hey willie, tell ty cobb and joe dimaggio;
Dont say it aint so, you know the time is now.

Chorus

Yeah! I got it, I got it!

Got a beat-up glove, a homemade bat, and brand-new pair of shoes;
You know I think its time to give this game a ride.
Just to hit the ball and touch em all - a moment in the sun;
(pop) its gone and you can tell that one goodbye!

Chorus
Chorus
Yeah!

The new FOX show `Anchorwoman' has been cancelled after 1 showing.

Paul and I were talking about some of the new shows last night making our predictions on what will be cancelled first.

My prediction is CBS "Kidstown" or anything on FOX.

Good morning. I sometimes comment, and thought I would introduce myself. I'm in Texas, have a grandson who calls me "his nana" hence the name, mynana. Love sports, was a legal secretary for over 20 years, then semi-retired, taking care of grandson who just had kidney transplant, and I do some work at home. Grandson doing great, allstar baseball player and we're enjoying the world series. Big Cowboys fan, die hard you might say. Watch Idol always, and I think Jordin's new song is good. I'll buy it. Hope you don't mind me leaving comments sometimes. Have a great day to all.

So Linny..
Did you catch Burn Notice yet? I am so hooked on that show.

Also, promise you guys won't laugh, but I am really enjoying GREEK on ABC Family as well.
Can't wait for the new TV season...
Looking forward to Chuck, Pushing Daisies, Journeyman, and have high hopes for Bionic Woman. Of course, there is always just going to be one Jamie Summers though. :-).. Looking forward to Life. I thought Damian Lewis was awesome in Band of Brothers, and he's the star in Life.

Oh yeah, can't forget my returning favorites Heroes and Friday Night Lights too...

This is the second season of it. I have really enjoyed it. Monday night will be the season finale.

We added Showtime for the summer so we could watch Big Brother Afterdark. On Showtime on demand, we started watching "Dexter" and have gotten hooked on that. The new season starts in a few weeks so we decided to keep Showtime.

LOL @ HOUSE!!!!

Posted by: linnykat on August 24, 2007 2:08PM EST
*groan* thanks a LOT, House! You KNOW I'll be hearing that for the next 4 months NONSTOP. I am trying to figure out who has a house in the country with a pool that i can go to on September 1 while THEY drive INTO town to be part of the ol' bulldog mix. Then i'll come home sunday and pick up all the trash that the good ol' alumni have tossed in my yard, and start getting ready for hte next weekend.

Seriously tho... did you notice how weird the schedule is in one way... that is... so many of the home games are bunched together at the beginning of the season, then there's a bunch of away games... didn't they used to try to schedule games so that you didn't have to travel more than two games in a row???

hey, what do i know... i just live in athens *laughing*

ok, back to work...

have a great weekend, y'all :-)

I am happy, Vick's plea deal only states he is guilty of dogfighting, not killing, not animal cruelty, not gambling... The govt cant add anything else to it. Now, he can come back and play for sure...

Hello Everyone. Happy Friday.

College football next weekend!!!!!!!!!!!

A little boy that lives on a farm wakes up in a grouchy mood. He goes downstairs, sits at the table, and demands breakfast. His mom tells him that the rules are no breakfast until after his chores are done. He grumbles and goes out to the barn. As he’s feeding the chickens, he kicks one. As he feeding the pigs, he kicks one. As he’s feeding the cow, he kicks it. He goes back inside and sits at the table. His mom gives him a bowl of cereal with no milk. He yells " What’s this? Where’s my eggs, bacon, and milk? " His mom tells him " I watched you do your chores. I saw you kick a chicken, a pig, and the cow. For a week, you aren’t getting eggs, bacon, or milk. " The kid grumbles and starts eating his cereal. As his dad is coming down the stairs, the cat gets in the way. The dad kicks it and the little boy says, " Hey Mom.. Do you want to tell him or should I? "

A kindergarten teacher one day is trying to explain to her class the definition of the word "definitely" to them. To make sure the students have a good understanding of the word, she asks them to use it in a sentence. The first student raised his hand and said "The sky is definitely blue". The teacher said, "Well, that isn’t entirely correct, because sometimes it’s gray and cloudy".

Another student says, "Grass is definitely green." The teacher again replies "If grass doesn’t get enough water it turns brown, so that isn’t really correct either."

Another student raises his hand and asks the teacher "Do farts have lumps?" The teacher looked at him and said "No...But that isn’t really a question you want to ask in class discussion." So the student replies, "Then I definitely shit my pants."
