8/21: Simon leaving Idol in 2010?
By: Rodney Ho | August 20, 2007, 9:08PM EST

It’s way early but Simon Cowell has told the Daily Mirror in the U.K. that he plans to quit “American Idol” when his contract is up in 2010. At this early point, this is probably just posturing but you never know.

He said he plans to move 100% behind the camera and concentrate on his booming music and TV companies.

“I have three more seasons under contract with American Idol and that will be it. And it will probably come at the same time in the UK. I am contracted for another two or three seasons in Britain and I think by that point the public will be sick to death of me anyway and it will be time to go.”

If this blog is still around in 2010, too, well, I too will move on and focus on my booming music and TV companies, too. Ahh.. just kidding.

Is there an American Idol without Simon Cowell? Paula and Randy could be replaced but could Simon? (I hope he doesn't read this...I'd hate to add fuel to the fire of his enormous ego)

I never post here, but I think Paula is the only replaceable judge. Randy and Simon are equals, IMO

The show took a ratings hit last year, and Simon sees the writing on the wall. What's big in America today is very soon yesterday's news. The buzz on Jordin Sparks is non-existant, and last year's winner, Taylor Hicks, is already fading into the sunset.

Who cares. All of them are terrible.

I love the show, but think it will have run it's course by then, especially if Simon leaves. Of the three judges, his commentary is the only one that makes the show interesting (like it or not.)

Morning Everyone, i agree with Deke, tjhe show is losing it's Spark (no pun intended) with the winners from the last 2 seasons. Where is Jordan???? The winner is usually everywhere... Simon is trying to bow out now, and i dont blame him. What is worse than staying past your shows prime???? AI will have to "Jump the shark" next season for new spice. I think this should be the final year, it was great while it lasted, but i see the AI star fading fast. JMO.

Wish he would leave sooner. He is a mean spirited rude person and I will be happy to see him go back to England where he came from.

American Idol is already losing it's amusement and with Simon leaving, it will be canceled because of low ratings. I mean the only actually funny and amusing part is the auditions and the finally and the finally is sometimes boring. The only people that have made that show Amazing is Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood winning...Paula is stupid becuase she doesn't know what day it is and Randy is losing his cool....Simon is getting bored and I don't blame him...Goodbye american idol...

No Simon. No American Idol. Period. The show will have run its course by then anyway. I'm busy today so I will be in and out :-)

Good morning all.

Simon tells it like it is. People that have been through major auditions will tell you it is just like in the process. If you can't handle that, maybe you don't belong in that business.

Of course it could be worse, they could have Piers from America Thinks They Have Talent (speaking of jumping the shark, Boy Shakira/Britny may have been this show's shark).

Star Jones is looking like a crack ho. There it had to be said. Mornin y'all.

Idol will be dead by 2010.

Good Morning Everyone.

RODNEY!! When you get your own television company, I want my own talk show - Jex Talk.

I won't have any guests or anything, I'll just sit and talk about stuff that I want to talk about at the time. Like I should get a mani/pedi discount when I bring in my own nail polish AND use the same color on hands and feet. What's up with that?

Posted by: Deirdre on August 21, 2007 8:27AM EST
New blog up! Morning!

Posted by: Jex on August 21, 2007 8:27AM EST
Oh yeah, no Simon, no AI. Bottom line. An hour of Paula's babbling and Randy's dawgs is something most people can't handle for too long.

Good Morning! Simon has to stay on AI or AI just won't exist anymore. His comments may be considered mean by some, but he is the only honest judge. We need him to balance the comments.

no simon no show simon tells the truth and he is always right i love simon

Howdy all..
After Simon leaves, there will be no more American Idol. He is the show in some ways. Of course, FOX will milk it for all it's worth. It makes you wonder if maybe we are seeing the death of reality TV. Other than AI, I prefer scripted shows like a great drama or comedy. I doubt a phenomenon will ever come around like AI again.

Oh yeah, maybe High School Musical 7 or the 500th episode of the Simpsons. ;-)

don't forget Family Guy - Stewie Goes to School

If Simon leaves the show is over end of discussion. It is hard for me to believe people think he is mean. You can't sing sit down and let people that can sing. I wish Paula would be honest and tell the truth she sounds like a broken record say the same thing over & over. Simon keep telling the truth, you can't sing shout up and sit down...

Posted by: Justin on August 21, 2007 2:46PM EST
If Simon leaves the show may not necessarily be over but it'd lose a bit of ratings because these judges have been around for a while now and if you brought in someone new it would be so cheesy...you saw during American Idol 3 how they had guest judges...they were so weird! Simon should just stay...if I were famous no matter how old I am I wouldn't just..quit.
