7/23: Nigel says oops on back stories
By: Rodney Ho | July 23, 2007, 3:24PM EST

nigel_lythgoe_main.jpg

Nigel Lythgoe admitted that the show obsessed so much on the guest coaches season six, as we bloggers have noted, the producers didn’t give the contestants enough due. I’m not sure if extra storylines about Melinda’s background singing or Chris Richardson’s Hooters work would have endeared us more to them to be honest. But I guess it wouldn’t have hurt.

”We were so engrossed with the mentors and didn’t really focus on the Melinda Doolittles of the show,” he said during the Television Critics Association press tour, which I am missing. “We didn’t know them as much as the Kellie Picklers of last season.”

Lythgoe’s current cousin, “So You Think You Can Dance,” spends more time on the back story of its contestants.

”We’re all attached to them a little more,” Lythgoe said about “Dance’s” focus on its contestants’ lives. ”I think that’s affected us all a little bit more. There are little emotional hooks that come out.”

Then he added, about the SYTYD top 10, which is actually very strong: ”There isn’t a Sanjaya here, although I do think Sanjaya helped the last season of Idol. I think there’s enough talent with enough great stories to warrant the fact that we are basing it on their talent. No one needs to alter their hair on this program.”

Is it safe?

I kind of like Nigel....he always seems to have some pretty perceptive things to say about the dancers and he's never mean spirited but he doesn't mollycoddle them either.

Repeated from last thread.

Damn I just wanted to pop in and say hello and found one hell of a mess. This Vick thing is BIG news it is going to be discussed and there is no way around that PERIOD. Now... can it be discussed without everyone getting mad is the question. Please people think about all that has been going on with Vick for the last 3 or 4 years. Read all the lame excuses he and the Falcons brass has had for his behavior. Read the idictement with an open mind remembering that the Feds have a 97% conviction rate on indictements and that they wouldnt have indicted him if they thought he would fall in that other 3%. Yes he is innocent until proven guilty but if I were a betting man I would take the 97% odds as would most people. Vick has created turmoil for the Falcons as well as the sports fans of this town and now he has created friction between the people on the most dignified blog I have ever been on and that is a total shame. I by no means want to make an enemy of any of my friends on this blog but the facts are out there (read them) . The story is all over the media in every part of the country. Vick has been criticized by everyone from U.S. Senators on the house floor, The Reverend Al Sharpton, Hip Hop industry executives and normal citizens. It's shameful what he did but what would be even more shameful would be for his stupid behavior to cause friendships on this blog to cease. Dont let him screw up OUR good thing please! Peace people Peace! :-)

Yes, now I have to test in the area I want to teach in which is Early Childhood. That's next Saturday in Cumming, Georgia. That's a long drive for me.

I tell you what, these test are costing me an arm and a leg so good thing I am passing them. The next one has about 75 questions and 4 essays in History, Math, Science, English and they can ask you any question. The study guide is only like 500 pages. oh my!

Posted by: Mitch on July 23, 2007 4:29PM EST
For any that might be interested. On ABC tonight will be the special taped while I was in Nashville. Kellie Pickler, Kelly Clarkson & Carrie Underwood are all going to be on the special.

shay, we all got confidence and faith that you will do just fine on it and the rewards at the end will be getting to do what you really want to do.

Hey there, all. Please go back and read linny's post on the previous string....it made me feel better, because it reminded me of what a great group of folks are on this blog. Let's not allow bad decisions and heated words to break down such a fabulous microcosm of society that this group represents. I know that sounds sort of silly, but this group is one of the most diverse, intelligent assortment of people (even if we're all goofy at times). Pull it back together, folks. ... and BTW, congrats to Shay!!!

Just checked ABC.com. It is on at 9:00/8:00 central.

Yea I saw that special advertised Mitch and I plan to watch it if I can stay awake that long LOL. It dosent come on until 9pm, thank God for TIVO!

Posted by: shay on July 23, 2007 4:37PM EST
Dang Linny, why you had to call my name first? I'm just saying!!

I'm kidding! My point was that it would escalate just like it did today and wouldn't be pretty. I won't comment anymore on the subject. You guys feel free to discuss "the current issues of Michael Vick" and I will be courteous enough to skip over them
:-)

Besides, I hate football!

Have fun! Hubby and I are off to celebrate me passing the test. Shay will be teaching our future kids of tomorrow. Scary huh? :-)
